Hey,
I have a DVD I want to rip onto my PC. What is the best otput format I can use?

I have managed to get it into video and audio TS folder.s I don;t really understand what these are. What are these and should i keep them like this? and is this the norm?

To actually answer the OPs question i would say .iso would be the best format. It's playable in VLC and MPC-HC and can be burned back to a blank disk easily if you ever need to make a copy.

DVD Shrink will do this easily enough and you can select what features you want or not, i.e menus/chapters/subtitles etc.

ok, Yeh, it's what format to rip it to is what I want to find out.

I have managed to get it into audio and video ts folders but i find these a bit confusing to be honest with you. I want to keep it simple.

Basically, If i ripped to an iso file, I could use this to watch the film. but could I stream this file to my Humax HDR t2 box from my pc and could I change the iso into audio ts and video ts folders in the future if i wanted to?

Would i be able to import the iso into a media management program too?

I'm just after suggestions really and what other people do

.iso is an exact image so think of it as a lossless format that you can manipulate later if you wish. DVD Shrink will let you load the .iso and convert it back to TS folders if you ever need to do that.

Another option would be to use Handbrake to transcode if you'd rather end up with an .mp4 or .mkv.

Use DVD decrypted to demux the main video + audio and then remux using IMAGOmpeg-muxer into an .MPG. If not use MakeMKV to rip the main video, audio, subtitles & chapters into an .MKV container

Can I just ask what everyone here actually does and if they were ripping all their films how would you rip and store them?, what formats/containers?

Well, the formats depend on what device/Media player you want to put on, generally I use MP4, as it's a usual format for almost all devices/ media player.
Actually now Im working on my DVD ripping with iFunia DVD ripper pro, which do the ripping good just after I choose the wanted preset.

I use AnyDVD HD, CloneDVD and Handbrake for ripping movies to digital format, as a general rule I use MKV but will be doing more with MP4 since more players are supporting this.
