Hey all. :)

Using MP11 to rip some CDs to MP3 to put on my iPod (8GB).

However i'm not really sure what bitrate I should be using. I don't want the music to sound rubbish, but also I have to bear in mind I only have 8GB to work with, and there are a fair few CDs.

What bitrate is recommended?

Also, is there a program that can take an MP3 file and change the bitrate, outputting it to a new file?

Thanks in advance. :)

I rip all my music to 128Kbps. I've been ripping it to that bitrate for years now, and I honestly can't hear the difference between it and VBR. You probably need high quality speakers to tell the difference and since you're only using an iPod and have the original CDs anyway, 128Kbps is fine.

I also use Adobe Audition and it's 'Batch Conversion' feature to convert all those non-128Kbps files to 128Kbps. Saves a hell of a lot of hard drive space.
