Ripping to DVD from MBP

Hi guys,
Just a quick question to help put my dad. He is using his mbp to make a dvd of things recorded on his flip cam and although he successfully writes it to the disc it does not playback on his standalone dvd player (bot the superdrive).

He done it through iMovie however im not sure what format.. Would this be the problem, the format and if so, what can he use without getting overly technical.

I've not used iMovie in ages, but I'm pretty sure when you export a DVD so that its a DVD Video it should play back. Are you sure it's not a case of his standalone player being incompatible? Some wont play burned discs.

Dont think so mate as i know he records golf from Sky for Granddad and tests them before hand, I'll try and see if i can gather a little more info and come back to you. Thanks for now
