A couple of years ago I purchased a laptop which came with its own set of set up cd's which included windows xp. I do not use the laptop now but have just built a new pc. Now, without getting into arguments about the ethics or legality, if I have already paid for windows how can I rip? windows from the set of cd's so I can instal it into my other pc?

I would say that given you're posting on a forum in full view of the public and lots of moderators, arguments about legality are fairly important.

Yes thats true sorry, would it be illegal then?

Thanks. It was hypothetical.

This is a great forum! So many people to help people like myself. Keep it up.

I had a copy of XP with my laptop (Fujitsu Seimens Amilo D) and i managed to install it on a new build and have it activated. No problems 1 year on! . I guess im one of the lucky ones.

How did you go about it?
