Is there any RIS experts on here that wouldnt mind giving me some help with implementing it? its given me nothing but problems from day 1 e.g. i built a machine with all software as required i then run riprep which sucessfully moved the image to the RIS server however when i then tried to reload the same machine the image came from i get an error saying something along the lines of this image doesnt contain the correct drivers for the network card installed, even just a standard copy of windows wont install over RIS. The machines are all Dells and fairly new and all support PXE boot.

any ideas? or alternative software you can recommend? i dont think i can use ghost as some of the machines have different hardware installed

Google for it, its a bit more difficult using riprep images but you copy the network drivers to a certain place for it to work. (different from using cd images afiak, so be carefull)

Personally i find ris works much better from a standard cd rip, with ALL drivers added and then use Group Policy to install additional software.

If you want to use riprep i would recommend doing an image for each hardware build as with the cd you can use one for all (assuming you can find drivers).

Have you created the $OEM$ folder for the OEM drivers? What you sometimes miss is you ALSO have to put the network drivers in the system32 folder in the RIS image. These are picked up in the PXE boot and used to get the copydown of the files running. Then later on in the install, windows picks up the drivers from the OEM folder and installs them as well.
