I know I know another worried burn in thread..

based on my following needs/usage how would you risk assess me to actually get burn in..

This year for my computer desk i wish to get a Panasonic OLED in either 48/42 ".

a typical days usage would be: read the news and some Facebook online for an hour before work of a morning (i am prepared to run full screen so no task bar or constant browser buttons). then tv off.

then after work (6 hours later) the same, news/Facebook etc. for a couple of hours.
then i'll probably watch a tv show for the average 43 mins on Netflix, then switch it off whilst i have a bath :D

i will probably have a blast on the Xbox series X then for an hour (i don't game for longer than that in one go)
then probably watch another show for approx. 43 mins. then finish off having another read for an hour then tv off.

(apart from realising how boring my life is having typed this out loud what do you think my screen burn risk is? i suppose you could risk me out of 10. 10 being most likely to 1 being unlikely)

and one last question. on my current Panasonic i use the preset " true cinema " because i think it looks more natural, that being said OLED is all about the <pop>! and I'd probably want to stick with true cinema for tv viewing so would OLED be wasted on me ?

I do appreciate any comments if you guys have the time and it may also help others in a similar predicament.

My personal view is that burn in risk is pretty low in the latest oleds. The technology has developed such that there is software to limit the risk such as automatic dimming, etc. Given that retailers are now providing burn in cover proves that the risk is low.

3 based on what I know maybe? A brand new set is probably low risk since new panels have many features to protect against this.

Why Panasonic OLED? LG are generally regarded as the best as they are pretty much the only mass panel producer so it's a first party product. I didn't know Panasonic did 42", although I heard there was a 42" LG coming so maybe using that panel. I bought mine from a retailer that offered a 5 year warranty, which helps with peace of mind. No issues since 2017... The burn-in effect is cumulative, so one 2hr session will have the same impact as 2 one-hour sessions for what it's worth. You should avoid static images, particularly on red, I understand, since that is the fastest OLED to degrade on WRGB panels.

Your comments about the picture present don't really make much sense to me. The modes on your TV will adjust the preset settings to different combinations and 'True Cinema' is most likely a mode aimed to get as close as possible to reference or calibrated image for film viewing. How close a TV can get depends on how well-calibrated it is but most importantly, the fundamental capabilities of the panel. An OLED uses a fundamentally different way of creating an image compared to an LCD TV, so it's capabilities and appearance are very different, regardless of mode. A 'True Cinema' type mode on an OLED will likely be a significantly better image than an LCD because of all the benefits of OLED tech (deep blacks, no backlight anomalies etc.). OLED colours also do appear different to me, and the out of the box settings in a 'movie' calibrated mode are usually extremely good.

Finally, OLED also has an amazing pixel response time, so the way motion appears on the panel is also really very impressive, this may depend on the panel you get, but in games and TV you will see a difference. I'm a fan of the motion interpolation tech, even though it's imperfect, as it just makes the image look more real and easier to view to me.

I'll probably give it a 2-4 out of 10. As long as you don't keep the same image for days on the screen then there will be a lower chance of getting burn in.

There's an article on rtings for burn in. If i were you i'd be confident about buying an OLED. Personally i cba with the effort to be safe, but if you are then it's a no brainer.

(Edit)
Actually i will say, if you plan to upgrade in 3-5yrs then also it's a no brainer. Though i'd take note resale value is not a given.

thanks for the reply's so far and just to answer a few suggestions.
It doesn't have to be Panasonic its just they have served me well in the past and i do like their true cinema setting but I'm sure other manufactures have similar presets.
i do actually like some motion settings even in cinema mode i have it on low as alex24 says its does make movement more life like.
i suppose my last question is will i see a big difference between LCD and OLED whilst watching tv shows/films via netflix in a cinema type mode?

thanks again.

yes it will, particularly when you are watching HDR as i think it is implemented much better in oleds.

if you are motion sensitive then i would suggest a Sony oled as that seems to have the best motion in my experience. I have both a LG and Sony and I prefer motion on the Sony. Not had the chance to sample a Panasonic.

The risk is still there and it's difficult to know on the latest sets as well... most people haven't put thousands of hours on them.

The dimming features still have problems in certain content in that they dim the entire screen rather than just the offending logos etc.

Entirely depends on your usage though, I've used OLEDs since 2016 but the only static imagery mine gets is the scoreboard in football matches. Certainly wouldn't be using one as a PC monitor for work or games that have bright static HUDs that can't be removed if you want to enjoy the game properly.
