I have an 8800GT in Windows 7 64bit, latest version of Rivatuner. DX11, Driver version 196.29

I change the default clocks from 600 to 700 on the core and 900 to 1000 on the memory and press ok. When I press ok just before it closes they jump back to 600/900. I reopen the page and they are set back to stock

Does anyone know why riva tuner doesnt work in Windows 7 64bit? It worked fine in XP.

Are you sure you are saving the overclocking profile?

Basically its just a tick box at the top of the clock sliders, then a save button at the bottom

yep 'enable drive level hardware overclocking' I need to tick this to change clocks. I then change them and press Apply, all seems good, then I press Ok and they jump back

U need to tick the box that says apply overclock at startup in the startup settings section just below the core and memory overclock part then press apply

Tried this and it still resets when you press apply. Ive found this info

"I've also tried powerstrip and systool. Even disabling driver signing none of them will work. All of them have the same error. They all reset the sliders after clicking apply."

"I figured it out!!! So simple! RivaTuner (or any of the others) won't let me put my clock higher than half my shader clock or it resets. So if you have an 8-series card and wanna oc the gpu you need to up the shader clock too. Shader needs to be at least 1mhz higher than half the gpu to avoid problems. This is probably true for more than just me. And the reason that ATITool and nTune don't work for me is cause they don't increase the shader clock."

I dont have shader clocks so went into power users > system and turned on NVAPI shader clock and NVAVI usage behaviour (tick box and values to 1)

Closed and went back into rivatuner and still dont have shader clocks

Think I heard something about writing it to the BIOS at some stage. . .
Think it was on toms-hardware
Ill have a look around

I understand I could hardware clocks the card but i dont want to fudge it up. Rivatuner worked fine before, so why not now on windows 7 64bit with new (P45) motherboard?

unwinder makes them both :p i think msi afterburner also

rivatuner is so much better once you get used to it

or it works!

Damn, having a 120mm fan placed horizontal to my 8800gt seems to have helped. Ive clocked it from 600/900 to 740/1050 (1800 on shader) Furmark runs fine and card never gets over 72c. What is the best stability test for graphics cards now a days?
