River tubing in the UK??

I used to live in Michigan and tubing down the river was by far the best thing to do on a hot day. Would always try to get to the river whenever we could, take some cold beers with you and it was always such a great time. Always ended up being about 20 of us doing it, usually hundreds of others on the river too.

I've googled to find places in the UK but all I find is companies that will take you to do it, usually £40 a pop which is crazy.

So, anyone ever done it/know where is good to do it? I'm not even sure if it's allowed? I know England especially is a bit crap for allowing outdoor recreation in the wild (no wild camping, like they allow in Scotland, for example)

Ive done this in Arizona before, was awesome, like 6 hours floating down a river, until you realise you forgot to put suncream on your shins!

Yea, so much fun. Really fancy it on a day like today.
