Hi all,

I've set the strap to 125 and it seems to be booting and reporting 4.6ghz.

CPUZ is reporting 1.5v though! This is high no?

What should I set to CPU voltage to for this frequency?

I'm struggling with the new bios (coming from a p6t deluxe v2) ! Where is CPU voltage and multiplier? I want to manually set that to 37 too, but can't find it.

This looks useful: http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18393540

Ok. I've only set the multiples and the strap to 37 & 125 and IBT fails on the 2-3rd run.

What is the next step?

My teamgroup 2133 ram is set to 2000.

I can run through IBT 10 times on Standard every now and again, but more often that not it crashes. Temps hit 71-75 across the cores.

Any suggestions?

Sure you dont need extreme ov enabled
Dissable turbo.

Set cpu pll volts to 1.65v
Cpu loadline calibration to medium
Cpu current C to 140%
Vcore mos volt to 7
Vccsa llc to regular and current capa. To 120%
Dram current capa. To 120% and power phase to optimised on both.

Leave secondry volts for vtt on auto

Hi Nick.

Just tried those settings. I ran through IBT 10 time standard, and it worked. Ran again and it failed!

Perhaps Ive got a bad chip!

I've also tried to just set the multiplier to 43 and leave bclk and strap to 100 but it will not POST.

maybe I have a bad chip?

At stock I've run through IBT twice with success.

IBT = Silicon torture POS!!! Use your PC to test stability or maybe Prime blend for 20 mins then use.

Nic has done a good job although I think I have seen those figures before;)

As far as the rest goes. Tune VCCIO and VTT. For DDR2000 1.1 on each is a good start. Set up Rampage Mode1 on memory.

What are your temps loaded as this can effect your clock quite a lot. All 3820 I have had do 4625mhz + . Take your time tuning.

Hi 8 Pack. Thanks for helping.

Good to know that it is more likely my incompetence rather than a poor quality chip!

I've done a few things since going back to stock (went to stock to ensure everything seemed stable):

1. I've installed the mobo intel chipset drivers from the Asus site. I hadnt done that at all and just assumed Windows 7 would do it. Maybe it did, maybe it didnt. Would that affect an OC?

2. Ive set the strap to 125 (bclk defaulted to 125 then)

3. I've set my RAM to 1666. Although it is teamgroup xtream 2133. I've not touched anything to do with RAM other than set the speed. Is this a bad idea when trying to OC the chip?

4. Run IBT 3 times (10x Standard) and it did not fail.

It seems that there are two places to set the multiplier? Under CPU ratio (seperate option screen) and also under Turbo Ratio, once set to manual from auto? Where should I set it? I also think I want to turn off speedstep and turbo mode on the 4th picture.

I'm also wanting to reduce the AUTO voltage, as it hangs around 1.505v a lot and seems hot.

My temps under load (IBT) do go up to 80ish (max on realtemp was 84). But that is surely because of the AUTO cpu voltage at 1.505.

I shall no longer use IBT, and use 30mins of Prime to test stability.

I shall also set my memory tweak to mode 1.

Have you read 8Packs x79 guide??

For your ram manually type in your sticks rated timings and leave rest on auto, and set too recommended voltage and rated speed.
As 8pack said earlier set rampage tweak to mode 2
And for now set latency boundry to auto and once its running ok try nearer.
Give your cpu a little voltage bump if its failing IBT.

Also in control panel, look for power options or type it in search bar and set too performance.

Have you run memtest to check your sticks??

Hi nick. yes read the guide and while I work in IT it made little sense, although I think I'm understanding more.

Timing say cl9-11-11-28 1.5v so ill enter them in.

Also I'll do the tweak to mode 2 and run memtest...

Report back soon.

Thanks for all your help!

Rampage mode1 I suggested!!

I would stick with this first up.

Running memtest now.

Where do I set multiplier?
Under CPU ratio (separate option screen) or under Turbo Ratio, once set to manual from auto? I think I would just like a fixed clock, rather than it jumping around as if it was in control.

Update!

I've ran memtest and it came back O.K.

Here was my memory just allowing the mobo to do its AUTO job.

defaultmemoryvalues.png

These are tighter timings than the memory is rated for so, I set all the values and also set the mode to 1. The next picture shows the rated timings.

afterbiossettingmemoryv.png

In the next picture what does the tighter timing JDEC 3-5 mean? The last one XMP looks to be what I set it to.

afterbiossettingmemoryv.png

Still worried about the temps. Below is after two runs of IBT standard...., check out the max values looks hot!

ibtmaxtemps.png

I've disabled EIST, but left turbo on as otherwise that removes the Turbo Ratio on the first page.

I've set that to By All Cores, and put in the value of 37.

I've also set the cpu vcore voltage manually to 1.395v.

This has been stable in prime for 21minutes then I got bored. I've also ran IBT to get the max temps of the chip, and it was cooler than prime95

1395vsetting2.png

1395vsetting1.png

I think this looks ok!

I had the vcore voltage at auto and it would always sit at 1.5v which apparently is way too much. You don't think this will have damaged the chip in anyway over the few hours of testing at that voltage?

Just an update. I've managed to set the following:

VSSCA to 1.15v
VTT CPU Voltage to 1.15v
CPU PLL 1.8v
vCore 1.365v
strap of 125
bclk of 128
multi of 37, by all cores.
RAM is set to 1.5v with CL9-11-11-28-1T timings (basically as spec).

This gives me a healthy 4,736MHz and a 2048MHz for the RAM.

Everything is stock (i.e Auto)

I've run prime for 20min and a run through IBT x10 standard. All seems sound. So now I'm just going to wait it out and use the machine as I usually do and if no crashes them I'm stable imo.

If it remains stable I'm interested in understanding more about the LLC settings and what they really mean.

But for line in the stand, this looks good enough to starting using my new machine in anger yes?
