I got the installation kit for the CD Changer in my Mk4 Golf from the local VW Stealer. Cost £50 for a few bits of metal!

One minor problem though... I didn't get them to fit it, as last time I got them to fit anything it was an unmitigated rip off. 1 Mud Flap, £30 to fit. It only involved 5 screws! The part was cheaper than the fitting!

Anyway, it mounts to the car by screwing into some Rivnuts, which I have. But I don't have a Rivnut tool and, as far as I can see, they're not cheap.

I could just go out an buy a large (long) bolt, a couple of oversise nuts and washers to use as spacers, a suitable fitted nut, and just use a spanner to tighten the whole lot up until it buckles and fits. In other words, the same method the tool uses, but it'll take about 10x as long.

Sound like an idea? Or should I just go to a few local garages and beg/steal/borrow a rivnut gun?

Take it to an independent garage, ask to borrow ir or just slip him a tenner to sort it out.

And £30 to fit a mudflap? Didnt you get a quote?

It was quite a few years ago, I wasn't really concentrating. I walked in and asked for a mud flap, they offered to fit it... not wanting to have the hassle of getting it done myself, I just agreed. Total bill was around £60, iirc.

Never again.
