rm550x enough?

Is the RM550x enough for 2500k @ 4.5 + gtx 980 and in the future 6700k @ 4.5 + gtx 1080?

Shall be sufficient, but I wouldn't go below 600W if GTX1080 is in mind.

Yes, it's a top quality psu built by CWT for Corsair and the full 550w is available on it's single 12v rail. It will have no problem running that pc with a 1080. Pascal is extremely efficient and the pc in my siggy has only come close to 300w at the wall while benching with the 1070 heavily overclocked. Normal gaming see's it between 220-240w at the wall depending on the game.
