I received my new Sapphire R9 280X today (Vapor-X), but there are a couple of things that are bothering me. Firstly, the seals on the box had already been opened and secondly the aluminium cooler looks slightly warped! The large heatpipe along the bottom has a slight dent and it appears to have pushed part of the aluminium cooler upwards... It's definitely been knocked! :(.

What would you guys do?

Well tbh if it would be me? I would return it after seeing it was opened :/
and + the aluminium is pushed upwards man get a new one you paid for BRAND new one not used/broken/bend opened one right?, im sorry to hear that

post in the customer service section first and see what they have to say.

I did that literally 2 minutes after DPD dropped it off earlier this afternoon... Not had a reply. The outer boxing looked a bit battered, but the Sapphire box and my 3770k box look unharmed (the CPU box was sealed). I had already shifted my old Radeon 7950 to another PC, so now i'm temporarily using a GTX 660Ti. I've not even bothered testing the 280X.

The damage to the cooler isn't very noticeable, but after looking at other photos of the same model, i know it's not right :(.

Her's a pic of what the cooler should look like along the top (look at the aluminium)....

I've been told that they sometimes open the boxes to do a quality check, i'm sure they must have a reason to do this in the first place though? Maybe my card was dropped and they had to check the contents? I don't know.

Funny that as I have just sent back a cpu that was opened and had smeared paste on it, also was told its for quality control!

I stopped using one of OcUK's main competitors a while back as i got tired of them sending me stuff that had clearly been used.

I received an NZXT Vulcan case that had already been opened and used (was then told they had "accidently" sent me an ex-display model after i complained about it ), a 24" Iiyama monitor that was open with quite a few marks/scratches to the glossy finish and a corsair PSU that looked like someone had tried screwing into the rear vent instead of using the actual screw holes! These items were supposed to be brand new and sealed!

Anyway, that was enough to put me off using them! I can honestly say OcUK have been brilliant so far when it comes to customer service and RMA procedures... I've just sent back the dodgy Sapphire card and will probably go for the 'Asus R9 280X DirectCUII TOP' instead, or maybe even a 4GB GTX 770 if they have a good offer on one :). The 3770K i received from OcUK is running flawlessly and the temps are surprisingly lower than my 3570k using the same cooler! My 3770k is a C stepping if that makes any difference?

If its true there recycling returned products as new then some thing needs to be done/changed.

It don't matter if the retailer or manufacture has opened the said product its still 2nd hand an can't be sold as new.

This is why most expensive items have a seal on them, me personally if i buy an item an its been opened il return it straight away for a refund an shop else where followed by a complaint to trading standards :D

I sent it back on Wednesday and OcUK have already processed a refund (takes a few days for it to clear though). I don't know if the GPU had been used/tested or not, but the box had already been opened and the cooler was warped as though it had been knocked. OcUK have always been good when it comes to returns so far and i've only had to RMA about 4 items in the last couple of years (and i've easily spent over £2k with them in that time).

id be more annoyed with that hideous backplate :p :p :p

The backplate doesn't bother me, although i can't really see what purpose it serves except maybe adding some support to the PCB (and adding extra weight to an already heavy card at the same time!). It definitely wouldn't help cool anything.

I was very tempted to just keep the card if it worked fine (didn't test it), but i suppose it would've bugged me in the end though .
