I am going to have to rma a piece of equipment for the first time!
There is a fault with either (or both) my new mobo and cpu, just getting a red cpu light on the mobo.
I've been advised to rma the board but was just wondering what the normal procedure is and how you guys normally do this.
It seems that I will have to post the board back, then it will be tested. If not faulty then I'll be charged and I guess have the board sent back. Then I'll have to do the same with the cpu. Does appear that it will take quite a while!
I was wondering if I should (or could!) buy a new mobo and cpu, get it delivered, possibly get the delivery company to pick my faulty stuff up. Then the gear can be tested and I could be charged if neccessery.

Help!!
(please):D

what hardwear have you bought? and what makes you think its one or both of those two? let us know what you bought and a bit of history and im sure the problem can be whittled down

did you check 8 pin cpu power is properly into the mobo and all other conectors....plus try reseating the ram and pulling the battery out to clear the cmos...also only have core components in just now eg 1 hard drive ,no sound card

Yeh, tried all that!
Tried ram in different slots, cleared cmos, everything.
I've put my trust old q6600 back in the case with the same connections/psu etc and she fired up first time.
I did have a look at the cpu and it looked a little marked/scarred on a couple of the contacts, but it did take quite some prressure to pull the lever down.
Not read many reports of the cpu's failing, but plenty of the mobo's!!

if you have another pc up and running i would just rma both of them and let ocuk sort it out....when you say alittle marked /scarred on the contacts how do you mean? are any of the pins bent or miss alined of the cpu

The pins on the board look ok, its just a couple of the contacts on the cpu look affected.
Don't really want to touch or try to clean them up.
Yeh I'll send both back, didn't want to be charged for non faulty stuff or pay for the postage back to ocuk.
But then again, I am a tight Yorkshireman!!

Send the cpu as well as someone i talk to on here just had same red light for cpu but he thought he would just try a new motherboard so he got a new one delivered but still not working so cpu as well has gone kaput.

Hey that guide is good, saved it to my favourites!
Thanks for the advice, I'll send both back.
I've no doubt that I'll be able to exchange the board as one of the heatsinks was hanging off when I unpacked it, I pushed the pin back in but the slightest touch/knock and it pops out!
I hope that I can change it for another make, up to 2 faulty Asus boards for me now. :(
