I have a 1080ti and 1070 in my rig and mine with them when I’m not not. Came home today to find the 1070 not recognised in afterburner and fans going full tilt.

I restarted pc and card shows up in afterburner once again with all the temps etc showing. However if I start mining within a second or 2 it loses afterburner and starts blowing again.

I tried connecting a monitor up and works fine but if I start to do things like watch a movie it drops itself from afterburner again and fans start spinning to the max.

Card has been ran undervolted and lower power than normal. I’ve tried putting it back to stock but same happens.

Do I need to RMA the card? Or could it be a psu issue?

Any help or advice would be appreciated
 
Try reading your first sentence again because its very hard to understand?

But from what i gather, maybe try one card at a time and see if the problem only occurs with one particular card or with both. It would be unusual (but not impossible) to have the same problem occur on both gpus at the same time. If the problem occurs with both there is more chance the PSU or something else failing.

If the system is completely fine with the 1080 (which requires more power) then the PSU is fine.


Other than that, maybe try a clean reinstall of drivers and creating a custom fan profile and keeping an eye on usage and temps. if temps go crazy with low gpu usage, then yes, its likely something is faulty with the GPU

Is the 1080ti working okay with the psu? If so remove it and use it's cables and it's pcie slot to test the 1070 on it's own. The least it will do is rule the pcie and psu out if it's okay for the 1080ti.
 
Apologies... was typing on phone...

tried the 1070 separately and after a few seconds system crashes after I start to watch a film or do anything that taxes the GPU and I get the DPC watchdog violation BSOD. I've uninstalled the drivers via DDU and downloaded a fresh set and installed... same happens after a few seconds.

I've got another PC at home I'll try that as a last resort.
 
Turns out that it was a dodgy powered PCIE riser.. Swapped it out for a completely different one and noticed some scorching on the one of the 4 pins connecting it to the Sata cable.

back to hashing again.
