I have had my bundle from ocuk for about 6 months. Only today have i ordered another 4 gig of ram, i actually have only had 4 gig in, which where in slots, 2 and 4. my new ram should be here tomorrow. anyway, i thought id move the ram i have into slots 1 and 3 and make sure they are working before new stuff comes. The pc wont even boot. tried all kinds, whatever i do the pc wont boot with sticks in slots 1 and 3. Is it time for an RMA?

Intel i5 & i7 require the memory to be in certain slots to boot from which is 2 & 4 - furthest away for the cpu socket, with the memory in the other slots the system will not boot, as I and you have found out. (Did this on my build on my i7 build)

Clear the CMOS with the RAM in the correct slots and hopefully the system should boot, pop into the BIOS and load the saved overclocked profile.

When the new ram arrives you will need to redo your overcock or lower it.

RJC mate i love you, so glad to here you tell me something positive. working fine again with 2 and 4. so adding the new memory tomorrow should be fine. your a genius mate. i never would have known you had to use those slots. crazy asus.

Possible for someone to cancel my RMA. or shall i wait till tomorrow so i can test new memory?

No probs :)

Glad your up & running, don't forget, before you install the new memory reduce the overclock or remove completely.

You will need to go steady and Prime or Intel Burn Test for stability. You may be lucky and get to 4ghz, but I think 3.6 might be the limit.

Ok memory came this morning, i removed the overclock and ive got it upto 3.81ghz and im gonna leave it there. stable on 3.81, so i think thats plenty with 8gb. Thanks for your help RJC .

Just wondering is there a similar problem with X58 boards? Going to be setting mine up on Monday.

Done better than I thought, nice one :D

You most probably will , as it puts extra stress on memory controller.

But it's a case of trial error :)
