So one of my 9800GTs died, again, and this time I've been offered a replacement. Unfortunately, they offered me a GT 240 which looks to be more equivalent to an 8800GS in performance. Any tips on how to persuade them to upgrade me to a GTS 250? :D
So far I've sent them an email back asking for an 8800/9800GT or "newer architecture card of equivalent power" - and they won't have any 8800/9800s else they would've offered me one instead of the GT 240.

Just point out that the GTS250 is a more suitable replacement due to them having the same number of shaders which is critical as you use the card for DC projects

Technically it doesn't, it has 128 instead of 112.. ;)

Edit: Actually a more appropriate card would be the GTS 240, which appears to be a rebadged 8800GT with higher clocks (OEM only).

How many shaders has the 240 got, I thought it was 96?

EDIT: It is 96 shader cores on the GTS240, so I'd argue with them that they cant offer you a replacement that would be a downgrade

Well, update. They've offered me a GV-R5750C-1GI.

Now my Google-fu is revealing limited information but it appears to be a 5750

Would anyone like to confirm to me it's not something else before I email back Yes God Yes? :D

Thats a good deal there, shame its not a nvidia card but like you said, small price to pay.

could even stick it on MM and pay the different for a cheap 460

It would be a very cheap 460, the 1GB 5750s are around for not much over £100!

But yes, I'll figure out what to do with it when I get it - I might even keep it for gaming and just keep an NVIDIA card in for Folding :)

Just to clarify, I wasn't offered a GTS 240 - that would just be the most equivalent card. I was offered a GT 240.

A GTX 260 on the proceeds is definitely something I'll be considering :)
