I am having to retire my TX850w bronze that has been going strong for 10 years now as I will be receiving my EVGA FTW3 3080 soon.

I understand that the FTW3 ultra can spike +100 watts higher than the FE 3080 and I was trying to decide what PSU to buy. I would ideally like to treat the PSU with care, future proof it and have it last another 10 years.

My understanding is that a 850w PSU is sufficient and the online power draw calculators state my total system will draw 680w, which would be 80% of the PSU's max.

I can get an RMx 850w gold for £145 or a HX1000 plat for £165-170.

Will a RMx 850w last 7-10 years safely or would I be pushing it too far to the edge. Is there any benefit to me going for the 1000w PSU or am I just being silly.

I appreciate any and all advice.

I dont know if some one read this post and went off to buy the hx1000 but the one for £165 is out of stock now and the next cheapest is 185 which makes it a dealbreaker for me.

Have you had a play around with the cables of the hx1000. Some reviews state that they are very stiff and hard to organise nicely into a case, many seem to have bought new sleeved cables which makes the whole thing even more expensive.
