Hi all,

Just wondering when the road bike sales start as I hear September is the usual month but the Cannondale Claris CAAD8 is available with a 33% discount at the moment - from £600 to £399... so have they started already or will this lower in price even more if I wait another month?

I have been looking at the Triban 500SE but finding reviews of the Cannondale in this spec hard to come by and wondering if it's worth the extra £100.

Depends entirely what you're using it for tbh. Claris and Sora are pretty similar quality, only difference is the extra gear. The CAAD frameset would be much better if you want to go fast, so long as you find it comfortable.

To get fit, enjoy the ride and I'd be riding country routes, no commuting.

Yes, but it's also worth the extra £50 over the Cannondale to get the Triban 520, which is currently just £450 and has a Sora groupset rather than Claris.

The only thing is I'd rather pay on finance as moving house at the moment and Decathlon don't offer this. Self employed so I don't have c2w scheme.

ok thanks I went to try a 54cm Cannondale CAAD8 but the guy said my back was too bent when I was sitting on it pedalling and that I should definitely go for a 56cm. When I stood over the bike the top tube was pretty much against my crotch without much clearance but i was wearing jeans which was probably a mistake... but I just left feeling 56 might be too big.

I guess I should go and try the 56 at a different shop and compare? I'm 5"10 and 30.5" leg.

the aim is to have the handle bars slightly raised and a more comfortable riding position I take it then with the back more straight and non-hunched?

Nah, the Caad geometry is pretty racy, so you'd generally have the bars pretty low and be quite stretched out and bent over.

So if that doesn't sound good to you, probably best to look at more relaxed geometry!
