Road Cycling Essentials

Hey Guys,

As some of you might know from my other thread ive just ended up buying a road cycle, and ive moved from a Hybrid to this which i think is abit more speicialised:



Now im wondering what people consider the essential pieces of kits i should be carrying or waring etc.

At the moment the only thing i carry is a multi-tool for changing seat etc etc, a helmet, a water bottle and thats it lol.

Does anyone else have some recommendations of what else i should be buying?

Hmmmm Lycra don't think so I'm a skinny 9.5 stone guy that's not a good look lol.

That's for the help guys looks like I need a lot, can anyone recommend me a replacement tube that would fit my bike that is decent? As theres hundreds :s

Sorry to be a pain guys but im getting confused with this. I take it our road bikes have inner tubes with tyres over the top correct?

So in a case of a puncture the the external tyre can survive the ride home if you replace the tube?, but if you replace the tyre in the first instance with a Kevlar type the chances of a puncture decrease?

I believe the size of my tyres are 700 x 25mm? Can anyone recommend a good Kevlar Tyre as i would prefer to do this now if it avoid/lowers the chances of punctures.

I already ware glasses (To see) so thats not an issue, have i missed anything?

My tyres atm are 700x25mm, and i take it pressure should be about 100psi?

So if i got 2 of those tyres would i also need tubes for them as well? any recommendations on that front?

Yep i already ware transitions and have oakleys as sunnies so im sorted there .

Wow isnt clothing expensive a good pair of shorts - jersey - gloves and shoes is coming to around 220 mark :S

Ah this isnt for work, i work from home lol so that doesnt really help me . I just do it for fun and some exercise.

BTW do you have any recommendations for Chain Cleaner? and Chain Grease?

Spent last night adding a few things into my wiggle basket would you mind just having a glance over and seeing anything ive missed or you would not recommend?

Only thing not on here is gloves as there out of stock of "small" so can get them from another place.

Well ill be ordering everything in phases i think lol, so ive just ordered my castelli Bib Shorts and Jersey, they only had small though so im hoping these will fit, if not ill need to return .

its quite amazing how quickly this stuff adds up, btw do you guys ware anything over the bottom of these shorts? im still not sure on the whole tight figure hugging pants for the world to see lmao

lol its more the legs that are a worry these things sit pretty high lol, im gonna have super tanned calfs with whiter than white thighs LOL! gonna look well cool speeding along like that lmao.

Well hopefully wiggle should dispatch the outfit today so should be interesting to see.

I so need to cycle shoes though i think, i just need to figure out cleats now as i keep misplacing and sliding my feet around on the peddles.

Well i was abit scared and didnt know what cleats were, i thought once you "clip in" you cant get them out with unlatching something but i ebelive its just a case of twisting your foot in a correct way?

Asprilla and platypus thanks so much for all your help, could i ask that you suggest not a cheap set of shoes cleats and peddles but a good quality set which will last me a long time . Looking around wiggle its so easy to get confused with Cleats-Peddles and then shoes :s.

Thanks a lot guys , ill look into these shoes im more worried about falling off lmao, at the moment im getting used to the skinny wheels but still slightly wary, so being "clipped in" worries me slightly

OMG im so impressed with Wiggle ordered at 3:30 yesterday and here already :O. Well is it a bad thing that a small bib shorts and small jersey fit my perfectly lol just shows how skinny i am lol.

lol still surprised it fits, all reviews said that even if your small a large is needed and i got small in both Bib shorts and Jersey :S. Lucky though

Ok guys, just got some cool clip in peddles and shoes , and just fitted them this morning, just tried it while holding on to a bench and nearly fell off lol.

I foresee a lot of injuries ahead of me, any tips from anyone lol.
