Not sure what they would do with the raleigh badge on the headtube either.

It's held on with clips that you get to by sticking something down the headtube. They'll take it off before blasting the frame, I'm sure.

What do you mean by 'didn't work'? And when you say 'on the left' I assume you mean the left hand shifter controlling the front gearing?

Halfords aren't the best for spannering (roughtly on a par with me)...

Yeah, thats the one I mean, when I try to put it into the highest gear, well I guess the chain comes loose or something because pedalling no longer controls the wheels. Putting it down into second again though works so I'm not sure of the exact fault, I just ride the things

I have a bike fit tomorrow with the Bike Whisperer in Ealing, then a ride on Sunday in Surrey with a friend from work. He's taking me up Box Hill apparently.

Some goodies arrived today - Castelli Body Paint bib shorts and a Torm jersey. The bib shorts feel amazing and fit perfectly, the pad is at least as comfortable as the S5 Mille in my Assos. Will wear them on Sunday and report back. The jersey is one size too small - will be returned for exchange on Monday. Beautifully made though.

Finally, my new Garmin Edge 500 arrived today, but we were out so I need to go to the PO tomorrow to collect it

Anyone know about derailleur jockey wheel compatibility? Will the newer 9/10 speed Shimano jockey wheels fit older Shiman 6 speed derailleurs?

These are probably the ones on there at the moment, but I'd prefer to replace them with some with proper bearings like these

The teeth will be thinner to allow for the 9 speed chain, but that won't stop your fat chain working. I don't know if the jockey wheels themselves will be thinner. At that price if you need it, it's worth a punt just to try.

*Or find a generous friend with 9 speed shimano rear derailleur who'll let you borrow the jockey wheels for 10minutes

Don't worry, it doesn't sound broken, just in need of adjustment. I reckon your front mech just needs it's limit screws adjusting as it is probably moving the chain too far and throwing it off the chainring. Will only take a few moments.

Be aware that something similar may happen over the coming weeks as your cables naturally stretch through use.

Random question...

Is there an iphone app that you can get to plan routes on that also works as a GPS unit when out and about? If so is it any good?

Today's ride was reasonably taxing (had to get off and walk up one of the hills), enough to make me feel tired now.

As a result of a slight mishap with my handlebar mount for my phone (i.e. it fell off), I'm now looking for a GPS unit. As I want it primarily for navigation, I'm probably going to go for either a Garmin Edge 605 or a 705. I'm leaning towards the 605 as I'm not likely to ever want the cadence and HRM features. Do any of you gentlemen have any other alternatives that I should consider?

Actually still got to change the tyres, got some black/red ones to go with the red in the Easton, FSA and Botranger logos, and obviously there will be a front brake for road use. I should really have swapped the front fork for the Alpina track fork i have, which would look slightly better for pictures as it's shiney, not matt black so matches the frame better but i'm feeling too lazy for that. Maybe in a few weeks i'll do it properly.

The first 32 miles I was flying, averaged 19.2mph. After that I decided to reign in the pace so I could finish the distance
Ride time : 5hrs 53mins - Including one splash and dash for water at the final feed station.
