Carrera TdF from Halfords for £329. Bargain and an excellent starter road bike.

ill have to take a better look at this!

Triban 3 from Decathlon is a better bet if they have it in stock in your size. The Triban 3 has a carbon fork where the TdF doesn't. I think the Triban 3 also comes with a compact chainset rather than the double that I think they are still putting on the TdF for reasons unknown.

would get it without thinking tbh! but they can't deliver and collection is not possible :o

Hello. I have a Cannondale Bad Boy. I bought it 11 years ago from Evans Cycles for getting around before I could drive but the last 7 years since have barely used it

Its an aluminium hardtail and is pretty light. The components as standard are either Shimano Deore or XT. It originally had narrow semi slicks which made it pretty fast but punctured too easily so I changed to some Specialized Armadillos EX soon after also with Slime (flexi-plastic)inner tube guards. I would like to cycle again as my son is now old enough to ride with me on his own bike I bought him recently.

I've just replaced the oem seat with a Selle Italia X2 but have yet to ride it. Let me know what you think of it.

It would be quite a bit quicker with slick narrower tyres, but your choice.

It was quicker but the frequent punctures meant it was not reliable and I'm not great at fixing things even as simple as punctures, especially if in the middle of nowhere. The replacement tyres are road tyres but not knobblies so can take the punishment of the poor roads without being too slow on them either.

Hi guys, at the weekend one of my best mates, mate had his bike stolen from outside a coffee shop in Windsor, it was a Specialized Venge, i think world championship edition if only 200 made!

Few details of it here from his facebook.

The guys a serious cyclist, he completed the TdF this year after the stages had been run! now hes bike less and whoever stole it probably wont even know what the bikes means to him, any information or advice where to post would be most welcome.

I really hope he finds it but why on earth would he leave a £9k bike unlocked outside a coffee shop? I guess hindsight is a wonderful thing.

I've just bought a BBB micro lock for £4.45 delivered (http://www.tredz.co.uk/.BBB-MicroSafe-Cable-Lock_50584.htm) to use for short stays at a cafe, I wouldn't trust the lock for anything more than a visual deterrent, enough to probably deter an opportunist thief.

Can anyone offer some help with these Giant Defy/Avail mudguards?

The pic is of the rear mudguard where it meets seat tube. I have a rubber bung in the kit which screws in to the seat tube and I assume through the cut out in the mudguard, however the cut out isn't long enough to reach the bung. My bike (Giant Defy 0) is a size L so not particularly massive or tiny so I assume it should fit. The mudguard is hooks on to the screw of the brake caliper and as far as I can tell it's mounted correctly.

Any suggestions as it's rattles against the frame something cronic and it's doing my nut in!!

I know, but apparently he was sitting down having a coffee, with the bike right next to him, in arms reach, but the guy just jumped on and went :( a lesson to us all

Would it be considered poor form to use a Ti bike worth 3k for a commuter/winter hack & an ALU Bike worth a 3rd as much as the fair weather, weekend bike?

There's probably a rule against this sort of thing? :p

Nope. I use my custom Ti as a commuter. It's what all the cool cats do.

Cheers. In one way it seems a bit backwards as the weekender is an alu but it also makes a lot of sense as Ti will handle the conditions better than pretty much any other frame material. It's also quite understated looking with the satin finish. And the conti 4 season tyres with yellow walls make it look a bit trampy which is probably a good thing for a commuter :p .

They also say your best bike is the one you ride the most. :)
