I don't have any problems carrying a couple of bananas in the back of a jersey pocket?

On a long ride (60+ miles) I'll take 2 bananas and a jam sandwich and that does the job for me.

one hour on the train to richmond rail station for me...

I think it's going to be difficult to find a place convenient for everyone that doesn't require much initial travel. Richmond Park main gate is a 30min cycle from where I live.

thats becuase it ws my first ever ride on a road bike , so no I was being careful of my new bike ! :D

ah.. can't wait to get my roadie! :O can anyone answer my question? just how WEAK are the wheels? i know it depends on the wheel but are they a lot weaker than lets say "cheap mtb" wheels?

Which wheels? Most wheels that come with off the peg bikes are quite heavy but generally pretty bullet proof. On my commuter I have some crap Bontrager's and I regularly hop off kerbs. 3 years later and they're still pretty much true. I wasn't so harsh with the Mavic Aksiums but they withstood plenty of potholes too etc.

Depends what you mean by weak.

26" wheels are always going to be weaker than 29" (700c) wheels but the biggest factor is spoke count.

I used to have 20 front / 24 rear spoke climbing wheels but is just wasn't with it. Now all my wheels are 32/32 and once I get the hang of this wheel building lark I'm going to knock out some 36/36 commuting wheels.

well the only thing i could compare them to is my BMX, but then again bmx wheels are tough, specially the ones i have on it! and i jump of curbs(on commute, on track we are talking 4-6ft jumps) and so on all the time :) so it will take some "Getting used to" before i know the limits of them

they are 32 spoke, aluminum and double walled? so should be strong enough for 100mile/week commute to central london.

Walk in the park.

Similar pair for me did 7000 miles last year, mainly commuting in London.

awesome! that was the only worry tbh :) bar the carbon fork but that should be strong too.

I've just done 18 miles in the dark. The temperature is down to 5 degrees according to the thermometer on the side of a building in town. I'm hereby invoking rule 9 and claiming the title of badass.

I'm off to a bicycle "jumble sale" 50 mile round trip. Looking forward to it, sounds like computer fairs of old but full of bike bits. Suns out too :)

where did you find out about it?

also, anyone wanna tell me how noisy a turbo trainer is?
thinking of picking one up but no point if it's going to wake the baby!

I was reading an article yesterday in cycling weekly about bike jumble sales and I wasn't even aware there was such a thing so I googled around and found one 25 miles away that was by chance today. Wanted to cycle somewhere so figured it was worth the 50 miles round trip.

I looked up the prices of my bits and the Assos toe covers are £33, the skull cap £35. I paid £5 each . They had loads of dhb stuff too. I saw a deuter bag for £30 just looked it up and they retail for £150

I can't wait for next months. Going to fill my boots, literally. :)
