What's everyones thoughts on non-pro's wearing team kit...? :p

I'm looking at these and these for various reasons... I like coordinated kit/gear and loud designs. DHB clothing is great but the budgets/amount I want to spend stops me from buying many other brands - or anything really 'branded' (Ralpha/Castelli/Morvelo etc). I feel like I'm missing out on the great designs and colours! :(

I'm riding a Giant bike, mostly blue/white/black accessories so the kit will go well, certainly at that price! I wouldn't wear current year team kit but what about 'old' kit? :o

I'm guessing these are all replicas (like Chinese) kit, but I'm tempted to try them out :)

Only thing I'd add to that is to be aware that the different models/years of groupsets may be quite different. For example, the 105 5700 is 10 speed, whereas the newer 5800 is 11 speed. From all accounts the 5800 is substantially better, though personally I've found the 5700 to be quite decent. It's similar for Tiagra - the newer Tiagra has 10 speed, old models will be 9 speed and substantially worse. Finally, old Sora really sucks as you're stuck with the crappy thumb shifters that are now only present on the Tourney (which to be honest with you is so low-end I wasn't even aware of it until Von's post above).

Tourney used to be used for flat bar offroad and urban bikes, but they started making road levers for it with the 2013 models, at the same time as they updated Sora to it's current guise (which is basically old Tiagra in a different dress) and introduced Claris. I guess with Claris being 8 speed with proper STI there was a gap left for something really bottom end. It's interesting to think that Claris is probably comparable to 105 from 15-20 years ago.

Tiagra gearing onward have proper shift levers for up and down. Below Tiagra is thumb shifter.

No, it's not. I have Claris shifters, so can vouch for this! And Sora 9 speed has proper dual levers as well. Tourney is the only current model groupset with the thumb button. I'm sure you can still find old 2300 bikes floating around, but you'd have to look for them.

If you like it and feel comfy wearing it then sure.

I don't like any of the team kit except the IAM kit which I asked my mum for the jersey for xmas and got some cheapo bibs to match but not worn the whole thing together.

My girlfriend got the lampre merida kit from her brother cause...ya know...its pink. Bloody vile imo, and he got me matching kit as a joke, its not coming out the drawer! haha.

Its not like your implying your a 'pro' cause your wearing the kit.

If you are going team kit then go retro:

I've got the Cima Coppi and Moltini ones. I really should get the Peugeot one.

Quite like the

TIRRENO WHITE JERSEY

and the blue giro one, i've a white santini young riders jersey which I think is quite fitting given i look about 20 but am actually far too old to qualify :p

Only kit I've seen people wear that looks daft is, KOM Red polka dot, Astana

but again...who cares as long as they're happy

I personally wouldn't unless it was to intentionally annoy other riders so they attempt to ride faster than you...only to then find out that you're actually extremely pro and you leave them in the dust.

Another 20 years of training and finding some way to become younger and that might be the case for me.

See they're ok, but retro doesn't really appeal to me... :p

I've not followed cycling really (other than watching the occasional TdF) until 2014 and even now I don't have a 'favourite team' and rider... *hides* :p

Looks naff.

Yeah but it'll make me ride like a pro? ;) :p

I'm sure a certain someone on here with a black and pink track bike may be interested in that... ;)

I think that's the thing - I'm not trying to be pro, I'm just showing support of a team/brand (why I was looking at Giant as I ride one). The last thing I want is people racing me (as Tart mentioned)... I guess I should just speak to my LBS and buy their branded kit they wear which is made by Santini (and I believe they sell at cost to regulars...) :)

Quite like the

TIRRENO WHITE JERSEY

Yeah that's nice, I like the Santini Giro one and as it's not really 'team kit' I may grab one... The others I like are: La Vie Claire (no idea who they are), Rocket Expresso (I love coffee but not tried Rocket, just like the design), Union (is this a team? lol) and my final one would be Wales/Cymru (as I'm Welsh) ;)

That's easily solved.

Your favourite team is Molteni and your favourite rider is Eddy Merckx as everyone since then has been doping.

(And he might have been too).

I don't have a favourite team or rider either, it's all about the race and what happens on the day (although I do have a soft spot for Tommy Voeckler because he gurns hard and he clearly likes to suffer).

Fair play to Evans, customer service just got back to me with an offer for a replacement bike, partial cash refund or a slightly higher refund if I go for vouchers which is what I've provisionally accepted (pending expiry confirmation).

Very happy and I can get on with enjoying the bike now :)

@Von and the others, thanks for the clarification on everything, have taken a copy as well to make sure I understand it properly, quite interesting to start understand bikes as I've always wanted to get into it for a few years now.

Going on from the groupsets the bike recommended yesterday:

That is using sora parts, so would imagine it being a good choice.

Good result :)

I'm a bit suspicious of the mudguard clearance/eyelets on that.

Also, it's a triple on the front. Whilst not terrible it's generally worth just getting a compact if you can.

Cant argue with that really , nice one.

Took my new bike out for its first ride today and very happy. About 12 miles with a nasty wind blowing and some rough'ish roads but I can see us getting along very nicely this year.

My speedplay pedals/cleats arrived today but the shoes will be a couple of weeks yet :(

I used to think it was ok, but tbh now I wouldn't buy any. Still have some left over that I would wear if none of my other kit around. Prefer to buy normal aero kit now, that and I also have actual team kit for the team I'm a member of.
