Road Cycling

Jonny69...just rest properly. There's no point in re-injuring yourself or making recovery take longer.
Trust me, I'm doing plenty of resting :D

Bored ****less if I'm honest. The last two weeks have pretty much been sat in the chair, rehab exercises once a day, lots of RICEing, a bit of gentle walking and that's pretty much it. I don't have my first physio session until next week, which is too late to be starting, so I've had to take the initiative to get started by myself. I can physically turn a pedal round now, so it's an appropriate time to start the process - but do understand that this is exactly that: it's just slowly turning the pedals round for about a kilometre to mobilise the joint. It's not riding like normal.

TdF has been a massive lift this week, though. Allez!

After having a proper ride out in my Rivelo Honnister bibs I'm really tempted to get myself another pair and try a pair of the cheaper Rivelo ones for those short evening rides.

I've written this week off :( Too much to do before my work trip and I fly out for two weeks tomorrow morning. That means by the last week in July I'll have a whopping 63 miles on the clock for the month  Come back to a week off though so should be able to nudge that nearer 200.

Another 100 mile sportive on the 21st August which seems like a long time away but I've got 3 weeks in the middle east and possibly a few days in the states between now and then. Good job it is around the broads with no climbing... better not be windy though :D

Kind of want to get the ball rolling on getting my shoulder sorted before the sportive but I doubt that will happen, especially as the doctors I'm registered with is in Southampton :o

Yeah I'm gutted I can't get the matching jersey now, though historically Castelli jerseys have never fitted me that well :(
To be honest I've only those 2 and the 3 club jerseys (aero & team) (so 5 Castelli jerseys total). I have them all in Large except the Aero team (which is extremely 'snug' on me, for aero gainz!). The fit of the Volo is better than the Team, they tend to sag a little around the middle, but not as baggy as the Entrata. I have normal (read: not a cyclists) biceps and quite wide/big shoulders so most cycling jerseys are very fitted around my upper arm and many of them bunch up. The Volo is probably the best fit out of all my jerseys on the shoulders & upper arms. :o

I'm guessing your fit issues are probably similar to mine?! What colour & size are your shorts?
The new Entrata 2 has much better sizing Roady. It is also a lot more expensive too :(
Yeah, £60 even on Wiggle! Designs/colours are pretty meh (boring) too!

First ride on the new Vittoria Rubino Graphene tyres today.

These are the basic ones with slick tread in the middle and a light tread at the sides which is probably more for show than anything.

Heavy, they are wire core so not foldable.

Snapped two park levers trying to squeeze them onto a fulcrum rim! Went onto a Hplus rim not too bad.

They feel a little heavy to ride and the ride is quite hard, probably as they are wire bead not folding. Grip seems pretty good, it was wet & damp this morning but no traction issues. Feel is OK too & they are cheap. $22 at one of the big UK retailers, I paid $29 locally, you're looking at $49-59 for a Conti GP4000 or Michelin higher end training tyre.

See how long they last but I think they will be an average training tyre, i would have recommended them a bit more if they weren't so hard to fit. Maybe 3 out of 5 at the minute & the old Rubino III seems a bit better!

A lot of this years Castelli designs haven't done much for me :o except the Volo, best of the worst...Fit up top is usually problematic from my gym rat days... not sure if this or this (don't laugh, such fashion :p) show the very 'non cyclist' upper body!

My older Free Areo Rosso Corsa are a medium, the newer Volo are a large. I do really like the grippers on the newer version, as the review article mentions a big thick but less restrictive band rather than the thinner more compressive rubber like strip. I've yet to ride in them yet but have some tinkering & testing to do tonight so will plonk them on for a 30 minute spin.

Haha yeah, your shoulders look similar build to mine! I've not got the guns or waistline you have though!

Totally agree about the current Castelli range. Quite like the deckchair but not enough to seriously buy a whole new colour/set/design of kit.

Great review, will be interesting to see how they wear and last! How many miles were you getting out of good clinchers - like GP4000S ii's?

Rubbish your riding is so dictated by work commitments, hope they're paying you enough! ;)

Many/any gyms where you end up, Wattbikes are meant to be good! At least that way you could build some structure/base miles around your work placements? :)

I recently finished the David Millar book 'The Racer' and (similar to my reading of the Cavendish book) they talk about fantastic sounding races in their careers I want to hunt down & watch. I fully expect other riders books are the same...? Can't decide between Froome's 'The Climb' or 'Life According to G' next...!

Yeah I tried the deckchair jersey and my bodyshape just pulled it in all sorts of different directions and it just looked pap.

G's book is very easy to dip in and out of. Each chapter is basically self contained which is great.

Maxeh lent me 'The Climb', haven't ready much but it's pretty slow to start with going in to perhaps unnecessary levels of detail about his childhood but I guess it's painting a picture...

Picked up G's with Clubcard boost points but haven't touched it yet.

Finished 'David Millar - The Racer' which I found enjoyable & insightful enough.

That's the thing with some stripes on cycling kit... They sometimes look superb, but then other times look 'odd' due to body shape/fit.

NFTO do a team gilet which has a fantastic striped rear, but I've never been able to see one 'in the flesh' to determine what it *really* looks like...!

If the Volo shorts are the Black/Yellow or Black/Red and you don't get on with them gimmie a holla...!

Cool, thanks! Bet it's much funnier and light hearted than Froomes too?!

I hope so, 'The Racer' is kinda light hearted and humorous. I haven't followed cycling enough to know if that's a reflection of Millar's actual persona or not. My short read of 'The Climb' so far is indicative of the dryness of Froome's personality on TV... *yawn* but I'll give it a chance to redeem itself.

At points of The Racer, particularly describing stages, TT's or crashes I couldn't read the words or turn the page quick enough :)

G's book is awesome. Seriously, read it and you will not be disappointed.
It's had me in fits of laughter at points, constant mix of good general Welsh humour but lots of hilarious and down to earth references to pro peloton life.

It's like if your mate made it as a pro, then came back to ride with you at home once every few months he would tell you all these daft and funny stories from pro life. That's what it's like and it's really fun.

Thanks for the tip off for sport pursuits 20% off, grabbed the GP4000s II for the Cervelo. :)

Now she looks super sexy! :D

(Had to go 23mm as that's the widest the frame will accept on the rear arch, there's about 1mm of space)

Ha, I actually missed them... they had run out of 25s by the time I actually went to order!
I'll certainly get some spares next time they come down.
