Mine used to do that. When it eventually died I moved to an Elemnt Bolt which is more responsive, has more features and doesn't crash. Would recommend.
My 500 is still going strong, but I think I'll be upgrading to an elemnt bolt next year.
I got out for another 18 miles last night. It's so windy on the seafront, so my speeds are even worse than usual here! I went round the great orme, which is pretty spectacular - you're on a narrow road round the headland with just a stone wall between you and a huge drop into the sea!
I've decided I like my new bright green bike, now that I've got the sram gears and disc brakes dialled in properly. Between the frame and the crank, the power transfer is good, very direct compared to my steel bike. It's not as firm as my Planet X bike, and the handling isn't as sharp, but I guess that's probably due to it being intended as all rounder or cx bike. SRAM gears are fine, easily as good as shimano at this level. Definitely not ruling them out from any future bikes.
Lillé was fantastic, lovely 3.5 days away. Fantastic weather, too hot some of the time (36 degrees on saturday, 34 on sunday!) for our usual walking/exploring around. Food was great, so many bars and cafe's but even the 'fast' food we had (burgers) were as good as gourmet burgers over here on freshly baked buns. Didn't find food or drinks expensive, most of the time we'd both eat and drink for under €25 (only 1 alcoholic drink). 75% of meals we ended up eating Italian, even going back to the same restaurant 3 times (it was that good!).
Beer was phenomenal, tried most of the locals but so much choice made it hard to find a favourite, probably one of the many 'Grimbergen' flavours. Had to be careful drinking in the heat as many of the beers were 7-8% (or more)! So cheap too - friday night I grabbed a bottle of Leffe Blonde from the supermarket. 75cl (big as a small wine bottle?) 6.6% for €2.48 (just over £2).
People were friendly and so many bike/cyclists everywhere. Lots of cycle couriers/Deliveroo/fastfood bike delivery. Although hardly any lycra or road bikes! Cycle paths on most 'main' roads but not many on the less main routes. Not many dropped curbs with only bollards separating pedestrians from traffic means cyclists regularly riding through/amongst crowds of people. Although at no point did it cause problems, no angry drivers/cyclists/pedestrians!
Considering the cost of Eurostar and the ease of travel, we'll definitely be going again soon (after baby). Well recommended. Was good to see various cycling themed things, even our hotel (Novotel) had a big mural on the wall, yet no bars were showing the Giro! I had intended to 'catch up' with my Eurosport app on the hotel's wifi, but when in France the app was only showing tons of local French races (I'd never heard of) with nothing international!
Weight early last week: 75.8kg. Weight this morning: 78.6kg. LOL. Beer/water retention from 4 days not riding I'm hoping!
Any PMC on the Free account? Can't see anything similar, or it even mentioned. One of the reasons I've not really used TP is because there's hardly anything on the free version which I find useful. The only marginally useful thing is TSS logged with a nice weekly total. I think that is what's put me off purchasing a subscription as it's quite 'expensive' if I don't use it...
Both of this weeks rides have reinforced my decision to take the jump over to cycling, riding through a country road with lovely views of green fields and hills either side of you, blue sky or sun setting, moving at a nice pace, it's hard to beat and a pretty damn good feeling. Although coming down a descent at 40mph last night, I hit a patch of loose road surface and nearly came off, that does dampen the mood a bit, and my bib shorts.
You're doing well, keep it up but just be conscious of pushing that hard! It takes you a little while to figure out road conditions, tyre grip and the effects our UK weather has on each. A huge part of it is confidence, which will evaporate when you have a crash!
Latest on my chainring issue.. does seem it is worn chainring.
If you watch the video in slo-mo you can see the chain jump off a tooth. It doesn't really leave it cleanly.
This is how the teeth are generally looking too:
Would Ultegra rings be the best choice? Aware there are a few other options but don't understand why they'd be worth it over standard Shimano. I figure it's best I probably just go for the full chainset with crank arms based on price being about £30-40 difference than just two chainrings. I've been wanting to go 52/36 anyway..
Always cheaper to buy whole chainset, than just rings. Ultegra is a good choice but you don't lose much by going for the current 105 which will work out quite a bit cheaper. Less than 200g weight difference between them!
Your small ring does look worn, but not excessively so. Chainring teeth tend to go more 'pointy' or 'shark fin' shaped when worn. Can you identify the tooth/area that is 'grabbing'/sucking the chain? It could have a damaged surface which is causing it. You could just file it down a little or smooth the surface in some way.
Damn it was hot out today! anyone got any tips to stay that little bit cooler?
i froze my 2nd bottle which helped a bit and an ice cream at the cafe was nice https://www.strava.com/activities/1006496397
Drink more & just keep drinking! Much of it is acclimatisation/adaption - hard for us in the UK as our hot weather arrives so quickly after cool! Humidity as well will cause you to overheat quickly.
I've a friend who recently got into cycling and will easily drink 2*800ml bottles in a 30 mile ride (when I won't even finish 1), even in the spring! Now it's warmer and he's riding further he has to stop and buy water.
I don't know if it was hot, or windy, or that I'd been out on my bike the previous two days (one slow flat road ride friday and out on the MTB saturday - really struggled with the latter) - but Sunday's ride... I just couldn't generate any power whatsoever. https://www.strava.com/activities/1010035951
Or maybe I'm just way more unfit than I thought I'd become.

If the 'split' is on the edge of the tyre and not the tread then it's usually caused by hitting debris in the road, not much you can do about that as any tyre will cut through the sidewall (none of them have 'puncture protection' belts there). If it's in the edge of the tread area then it can obviously be caused by debris, but can also be caused by hitting pot holes and curb jumping. It can be very similar to a 'snakebite' puncture on a tube.
Running 25mm's or wider tyres, allows you to run lower pressures, helping the tyre to deform more under impact (so doesn't 'pinch' as bad). You have a wider contact area with the road so although there's not much you can do against cuts in the sidewall from debris, wider tyres will generally be more like a 'lightbulb' shape when on your rims, protecting the sidewall slightly. With the larger tread area, there is generally a wider puncture protection belt too.
Park Tool do a 'tire boot' which might be worth investing in. Although if you keep experiencing them then you're either really unlucky, treating your tyres really badly (hitting potholes too hard) or doing something wrong (lots of curb jumps/drops).
GP 4000sii are very soft tyres though, you could consider running something a little more robust (GP 4Seasons, although still quite soft generally wear a little better).
I *think* you can pay monthly but it makes much more sense to just pay annually. The free version from what I recall gives you a limited number & restricted access to charts but you can swap this about a bit until you are subscribed.
If you can't find the BC gold discount code in your account drop me a trust.
I'll investigate it this week. Thanks for the offer, pretty sure I've got one (looked when you mentioned it a month or so ago) so it's just down to me to make a decision...
I can easier cancel Strava Premium than Zwift at this stage, as without Zwift I'll be more weather driven with my riding and that's the last thing I want!
Thanks both! The split this time was actually across the Conti branding... - the tube was just starting to poke through
I've put my (backup) Gator Skins on for now because I'm going out on a ride tomorrow. Only about 30 mile but I don't trust that split. Bin the tyre, right?
I've treated myself to some 4-Seasons. I've got to stick to 23c because my (Scott) forks don't like anything larger from Conti.
Nonsense! Plenty of tyres have "bead to bead" protection, and not just the absurdly heavy duty tyres like schwalbe marathon plus and the like. Michelin Pro 4 Endurance 2 have tread and sidewall protection, and very good rolling resistance.

Only went and done Streatley hill tonight didn't I!?
Well chuffed with myself. A slow 11 minutes (although 3 minutes of that was taking photos and texting Ben and my boss as I didn't realise I'd stopped before the end of the segment, not making excuses as 8 minutes is still slow! ). Was going so slow at one point my Bolt kept auto pausing haha
Then raced the sun set home as I had no lights, genuinely put a lot in to tonight's ride, kind of surprised it's only 16.9mph average, bolt said 17.1
