Road Cycling

I was looking at them as a potential club.

Also considering Clapham Chasers or joining Thom at Paceline RT as his domestique. :D

my brother is going for their intro ride on sunday, starting at cristal palace.

50mi/15mph avg with 3k ft climbing.

we'll see how he likes it haha, just wondered if there were any ocuker's there.

can't believe i'm going to do this but....................turbo time!

Wife is out and I'm looking after the kids...she's working all weekend so no cycling outdoors for me!! again!!!

Got beeped at on the way home by some berk in a bimmer who objected to my not using a cycle path with Tarmac like the surface of the moon... Needless to say he got an extended look at my middle finger.

Okay, I just started it in Great Bookham again for simplicity.

Not the most creative route but it takes in climbs I believe are new for you.

Climbs in order Staple Ln > Shere/Peaslake > Barhatch Ln > Newlands Corner South > Crocknorth Rd > Chapel Ln North > Ranmore Common North

Barhatch Lane was in the ToB and Ranmore Common featured in the Surrey Classic last weekend.

Thanks Shamrock, rode the route today, main road was busy, but out of that was nice and peaceful. Barhatch Lane is quite steep :D Took off the last little bit to add in Box Hill. Pretty zonked now after only taking a banana and Apricot with me :D

Thoughts on Barhatch Lane vs Whitedown Lane? Most seem to reckon Barhatch is more difficult but I always found Whitedown Lane far tougher. Admittedly I've only done Barhatch once and Whitedown twice (1 success, 1 walking failure).

Nice, glad you enjoyed it!

It depends. I think Barhatch is harder if you consider the whole climbs. But if you compare the steep ramps only, Whitedown is harder.

That's probably it.. I fail at steep sections. Especially when I first did Whitedown and thought the first minor ramp was the top :D

Is it just me being abroad....

Ribble always are so slow to despatch my orders. Ordered Thursday mid morning uk time.

Still not been sent, so it won't go until Monday now at the earliest and will probably take two weeks as they use parcel force.

CRC next day every time & I had it within 5 days.

I put up with it because they are cheap and I've learnt to live with it, but if I was inside the UK it wouldn't be good enough really.

Gents what Garmin/Wahoo would you currently recommend?

My Edge 500 has served me well but ideally I want something that has great mapping features.

I'm wanting to do more and more rides in unknown areas and just plotting a map on Strava and uploading it with turn by turn guidance if possible?

Almost like a sat-nav for my bike if possible !

Just installed my Vector 2's today and have a couple of questions please.

I know I'll need to do an FTP now I have a power meter, but which reading from Strava should I use? There's an average power, and a 'weighted' average power.

Finally, as suspected I am horribly imbalanced, majority of my power is coming from my left side (58/42%). Does anyone have any advice on how I can fix this?

Told you bro, Elemnt

Average Power.

Pedal more with your right :p Look up some drills, TrainerRoad workouts have great cues for this. A conscious effort on steady terrain with some good cues can be all that's needed. Or you may have muscular weakness to address. Today's 66 miler returned 51%

FTP Test Guide :)

Make sure your position is even first before thinking you're massively unbalanced. Saddle tiny bit too high will see the imbalance get worse for instance with me. I've tried numerous exercises to strengthen my right side, but still at about 52/53 to the left.

FTP test guidelines in BennyC post.

Thanks for the advice guys. I've got a longer ride tomorrow, so will analysis the inbalance better.

Anyone watching the road race in Rio? Cracking race, mad descents. Quite a number of crashes. Looks like an exciting finish.

160 miles done. Wasn't really that bad aside from failing to manage my food quite as well as I should. I had two points at about 110 and 140 miles where I felt like I would've bonked if I'd pushed much further without eating more (also I ran out of food at the same time :p). Stopped at a pub and ate all the sugar, suddenly riding was easy again.

Off to grab some beer and pizza to aid with recovery.

Slow and steady metric 100 with my best mate done today.

First one of the year for me (I've been slacking tbh), and his first ever...But, I think he did okay.
I had to pace him, as he was going way to fast at the start, but he's only ever ridden 25 miles before, It got a bit hilly round Luton/Dunstable (as far as Bedfordshire goes it does)

40 mile MTB for me tomorrow, currently carb loading on Brewdog :)
