Put simply... are they worth it?

Ive been thinking about getting one as a play thing but have no real knowledge of them, im 19 with full uk license and one years ncb.

Need to know about running costs and what they are like to maintain and own.

Btw, didnt know where else to put it so i put it in here at the risk of getting shouted at.

Cheers :D

Theres one around here, the only thing that comes acroos in my mind is "what a tool". There is no point in them unless you a farmer in the moors or up hills.

Not worth it imo

They combine the worst parts of riding a bike with the worst parts of driving a car, and don't give you the best things about either.

This. Too wide to filter, so you get stuck in a queue choking on exhaust fumes. Unstable and extremely vulnerable in the event of a car hitting you. Can't park in the (usually free) bike section of parks, and is a magnet to thieving scum.

You will look like a *****...

And that! Mostly that tbh.

Plus quads aren't remotely as fun as you'd imagine. Cornering on a quad is genuinely hard work as they're not designed to be ridden on tarmac at all - they have no diff on the rear and if there's grip, they really don't want to turn. The rear wheels fight each other and it wants to tip over so you have to hang off if you want to corner at any real speed (and I mean any speed at all really)

They're just useless, pointless vehicles as far as road use goes.

I like trundling around on a little quad on holiday, but that's it. I'd never have one in this country.

...having said that I actually own a quad but off road farm type. Its actually good fun in the gravel and dirt but trundles on tarmac! The noise coming off the tyres gets a bit annoying.

As most will say they have all the disadvantages of both a car and bike with none of the Pro's really :p

If you get a normal quad you look like a farmer, the only time I think they look good is if your in full mean looking race gear on something like the Raptor :D

You cant filter like a bike and you cant corner like a car or bike, so..... get a bike license ;)

Why do you want one? What do yu mean by a full license? That can mean bike or car but I'm assuming bike. So why not get a bike? Less downsides.
Are you going to be using it off-roading?
