Hi,

Can anyone confirm for us what this sign means:

I know the one with car/bikes above it means no access unless you're basically visiting a premises on that road, but with the 7.5T sign does it mean something else?

Its regarding a parking issue near our work, and flyers handed out stating people will be fined for parking there.

It means that there is a weight limit - nothing over 7.5 tonnes except for access.

This.
So HGVs don't use the road as a cut through. Nothing to do with parking.

Who is saying that they will fine you? If it's anyone other than the police or the council they cannot use the words "fine" or "penalty". It's illegal.

The red-ringed sign is meaning "applies to these vehicles", therefore the standard sign you mention with cars & bikes means "except for access for cars & bikes", whereas that sign means "except for access for vehicles in excess of 7.5 Tonnes"

As Rilot says, it's nothing to do with parking, just access to the road. Are you sure there's no other signs anywhere regarding parking, any markings on the road? If there aren't any signs saying "resident only parking", "no parking", double yellows etc, then there's no reason you shouldn't park there.

Thats the flyer that was put on a work colleagues car, however it seems another was fined £30 for parking there and another given a verbal warning by the police.

Having checked googlemaps, it appears we have to drive through a "except for access, cars/bikes" area to get to this area so maybe there is some issue with it. I need to do more digging :S

thanks for the comments so far :)

Seems pretty cut and dry to me and unrelated to the original sign you posted.

If you have to go down a road with a "no vehicles except for access" in order to get to the area you park then it would indeed be an offence to go down that road.

yeah I've just been checking google maps and the road that leads to this dead end and unused road does have the "no car/bike vehicles except for access" signs up :(

looks like we'll need to find somewhere else to park until we move to the new building with onsite parking :(

Thanks :)

an "no vehicles accept for access only" road sign

"links" to twitter, youtube and facebook on a printed flyer.

omg.

yes, the spelling and odd facebook etc links was one of the reasons it raised a doubt in my mind, however it does appear to be factual but I am very concerned though if this has come from the police because it screams of being amatuer.

I saw that flyer in the office as well AHarvey earlier tonight. We must work in the same place.

I do believe one of the roads leading to the road in question doesn't have the except access signs but I'd need to double check.

Chat, Support or VIP?

Hopefully that means something :p

If the only way you can reach the road you want is through the "Except for access" area, then surely you are using that area for access? The idea behind this is to stop drivers using certain roads as rat runs to e.g. circumvent busy light controlled junctions.
