If your registered keeper (name only) on the V5 is different from the name on the insurance can the vehicle still be taxed?

Been looking about for the answer, the logical one is no though I would have thought as long as the vehicle and address match it is ok.

I've managed to tax a car online while it was covered by my insurance but in the wifes name.

You can Tax a motor using the little tear off strip but it will come back registered in your name.
The car would not be in your name on the Log book but you would be the registered owner as soon as the Post office Dude tapped in the details.
