Road Tax - Likelihood of problems?

I knew my renewal was coming up and in the chaos of New Years, drove to Bristol for a night out and half way home realised my tax was out. I haven't got a reminder set up at my address and was meant to get it sorted last week.

Chances of finding myself with some issues? I'm trying to think if there are many or any ANPR cameras on the route I took.

I'm buying the road tax now :o

You get 2 weeks grace period with a Tax disk, after that they will come down on you
like a tone of bricks. So if you are re-newing it now then you should be fine and have
no problems what so ever.

If you were pulled by the police or an ANPR camera saw you then you're fudged. There's no "2 week grace period" - that's just how long they give you to display proof of your tax with a disc.

I'm sure there are websites that show you where every ANPR camera is. Check it out.

Oh and by the way, telling us where you drive to Bristol is all well and good, but you didn't tell us where from... If Bath then you might be alright, if Aberdeen then I think you might be in trouble :p

Clifton toll and then about an hour south on the M5.

Looking at some of the maps online it doesn't seem like there are any on my route.

I'll get it sorted and keep my fingers and toes crossed.

You don't 'set a reminder up'. You are automatically sent one to the registered address of the vehicle. It's an offence not to keep this up to date.

Which is also a problem when the fine from the DVLA goes there or the NIP for speeding.

Pfft, I've driven cars with no tax through ANPR cameras (they are almost everywhere now) and nothing ever happened. Wouldn't worry about it at all.

ANPR cameras aren't generally used for this purpose at all, they are used to fight proper crime. There would be about a million tickets a day going out if ANPR was used for tax/insurance/mot offences.

Op, you'll be fine. Now that you're taxed officially, you should be ok, but you will still be not displaying a valid tax disc until your new one arrives which is an offence, but just be smart about where you park and use it and you should be fine. Not many people would give you a ticket for not displaying tax if you had it on the system. Just carry around your confirmation printout with you for a few days
