After our Pacific Coast Highway road trip last year (pretty much same route as Fox's but we didn't do death valley) we are considering Italy as a possible road trip destination.

However, neither of us know much about the country in terms of things to see other than the main sights: Lakes, Venice, Milan, Rome, Florence and errrr...not sure what next!

Has anyone done an Italian road trip? If not, can anyone suggest any sights to see and we can work out a route around in. We plan on spending 3 weeks away so time shouldn't be much of an issue...

Thanks for any advice/suggestions in advance.

Also the motorway between France and Italy as well as the coast roads around the Italian Riviera (similar to Amalfi). The motorway may ound boring but the view is epic, most of it isn't ON land, it literally goes from large bridge to tunnel for around 20 miles.

Also Pisa is worth a stop at for the tower as well as a couple of the towns around there. Southern Italy is also probably very nice, maybe head down the Appenines and then over to Sicily which is beautiful, could even wonder up an active volcano while you're there.
