So, heading to silverstone today I passed through the roadworks on the M25 heading to the M1 and those on the M1. Both have got average speed cameras and warning signs up, but it seems like lots of cars are still driving above the signed limit. Trying to do 40 in both I was constantly being passed by traffic.

Now is this just lack of knowledge of what these cameras are, or is there some leeway above the signed limits?

Also I only spotted one set of cameras on the M25 on the way up, so I'm wondering if I didnt see the first set. I'm hoping they didn't have them at some stupid place like bang on where the limit starts because its not easy to slow down from 70 to 40 in free flowing motorway traffic.

Too many cameras around. How am I meant to drive safely if Im constantly looking at my speedo?

errr since when did the m25 have specs?!

Since they started digging it up again in places.

One of my workmates was "done" in the roadworks ,with average speed check, on the M6 near Stafford recently.

He was in an HGV doing an average of 44MPH

The average speed cameras I believe are not always switched on, but, you never know when they are.

The speed limit is there for a good reason in roadworks - safety - its wise to stick to it imo.

They are on roadworks between J16 & J17 iirc on the M25, as well as the roadworks on the M1 widening.

Doesn't sound like a lot of leeway, assuming that was for a 40 limit.

Ive not got a problem with limits in roadworks. I guess the only way to enforce them at the moment is with cameras, and even then the limits are broken.

There are also some of those av speed cams between junctions 25 and 24 on the M25 due to road works. Have to pass through them on the way to university.

I never risk it and always stick to the limit, but one of my friends who also takes the same route did not realise there were cameras until I told him (With all the signs I dont know how). And I have seen him speed through them a number of times and has never received any penalty.

a lot of people seem to get alway with it but I just dont think its worth the risk.
