I'm trying to set up a domain based network using w2k3 server.

I'm well on the way to having all of my profiles etc set up and its suddely dawned on me that one of the network clients will be using a laptop and plans to use it away from the network.

I'm familiar with the offline files feature. Is there any way to utilise this so that when the laptop is not connected to the network, the user can still log on with his profile and still see all of his documents etc.

Cheers in advance.

Hi there!

Can can indeed do this, you need to make the profile local. On our XP laptops, you have to log the user on and then go into system properies, Advanced, user profiles - double click on the user ID and select Local.

Get the user to log off and back on, job done! Combine this with off-line folders for access to documents and the like (depending on your network setup)

Why would he need to do this? Unless there's a GP set to now allow login when domain is unavailable, the user should be able to login with his roaming profile (cached) without any problem when away from the office.
