Thought I'd quite like to start an appreciation thread for the courage and bravery shown by Rob Burrow in the face of suffering from Motor Neurone Disease (MND).
He was obviously a prolifically successful rugby league player who played for Leeds Rhinos over one of their most successful periods in Super League, winning everything from Challenge Cups to Grand Finals. Rob was never big in stature but was always big in heart and was a tremendous player to watch, whether you supported Leeds or not.
Last year he made a documentary about adapting to life with MND. It took me a LONG time to pluck up the courage to watch it, as I knew it would be difficult viewing, but its a tremendous piece of film and utterly heartbreaking to see what devastation this disease causes, particularly to such a young man with such a young family. The documentary is here:
BBC iPlayer - Rob Burrow: My Year With MND
It has since been nominated for a National Television Award:
Interview with Rob's wife Lindsey on the challenges of adapting to a new life:
I am a big rugby league fan so have seen Rob play many times and have recently pre-ordered his book "Too Many Reasons to Live" which is released shortly.
Interview with the great man:
