Robotic lawn mowers

I'm going to be doing my 3rd worx wire rewire soon. Last time I said it would be my last. So going to start following this thread again for GPS based mower reccomendations.
Wires are now a thing of the past for me and I'm so happy about it. My Navimow 205 AWD arrived today and was up and running in minutes. The possibility to add new entire zones or edit the boundary is so freeing. It feels like this thing is a genius compared to the Landroid which was a workhorse when it worked but when it didn't was infuriating. Much better traction out of the box too on the Navimow, the landroid needed better wheels, weights on the back, I bought an aftermarket blade rotor etc. This one just works. I think it might be a bit smarter about evading tricky spots, I hope this doesn't mean it just ignores them. But certainly I'm not expecting to have to 'rescue' this one anywhere near as often as I had to with the Landroid.

Only two downsides so far are, battery life seems a bit less than my equivalent area spec'd M500. I imagine the navimow is just using more battery being clever with gps as it mows in nice stripes. And secondly accuracy. Where I've defined a border, from what I've seen so far, as it goes around again it can easily be 4-6 inches inside the boundary and think it's on the boundary. I don't know if it will 'learn' and get better with him, I hope so otherwise the boundary will be quite unneat, definitely moreso than with the Landroid who obviously followed the wire very well and the blade was also on the one side. Whereas with the navimow the blade is central.

I think i'd perfer an rtk version. 4g is great but what happens when there's a local mast issue or they decide to charge £100/year for the 4g sub.
The Navimow can do RTK too, comes with the antenna and things. It's EUR 30 per year for the 4G, if it does the job then I will swallow that happily.

It looks like the Mammotion inavi can use either 4g or wifi coverage. They say that if your 4g is weak you can use wifi but for us neither would work well so we use the rtk.

Out of curiosity what led to you having to rewire?

I've not yet had to, but have had to fix breaks, reroute, etc. several times.

Starting to think about a GPS one.

My Worx Landroid S300 is pretty good. the thing that lets it down is just our lawn lol it annoyingly stays quite damp for a while after a good bit of rain causing Landroid to struggle in places, occasionally getting stuck. There's a few patches where it's churned the lawn up a bit where it's tried to turn around in the wet and got stuck. I have 3D printed some spikes for the sides of its wheels which seems to have helped. It's not been stuck since I added them. I did re-lay my boundary wire a couple of years ago and sunk it into the lawn properly and it's been working well. Just get mild anxiety when I go to aerate the lawn making sure I don't catch it!

Our lawn isn't massive so a bigger mower didn't make sense but I do wish it could cut right up to the edge to save me a job. For my next house/bigger lawn I will certainly be keen to buy another bigger robot mower as I'm sure the tech has progressed no end since this S300 came out

Just in the process of buying a house with 400m2 of lawn. Really faniced the Mammotion Yuka 2 with the grass catcher, anyone had any experience with it? If not, what are peoples experiences with the mulcher type mowers and bringing grass into the house from people/dogs, am i overthinking that it will be a problem?

This is the first time I've ever heard of a robotic mower that collects grass. Sounds like to could be useful in some situations.

I have a mulching type and I do the first cut of the year with a petrol mower, then set the robot to work and the tiny lengths of grass are invisible and never an issue. I don't have a dog, though.

WE have a Yuka mini and have no issues at all with grass being moved into the house. The mower just trims the tips of the grass rather than cutting longer lengths as you would with a traditional mower and so are no more than a couple of mil in length. As long as yuo allow the mower to be cutting reugularly (we have ours set to cut every other day) then you wont have an issue.

Would it be too noisy to run late at night or early morning?

My Navimow i105e is effectively silent, the only noises are if the blade skips over something concrete, or the wheels displace some stones etc..

My trusty Luba 2 went back for repairs under warranty today, no idea when I’ll get it back

Been fine for 2 summers, then getting it back in service this year but was playing up a bit. App kept showing speed sensor errors, plus some other niggles.

Hopefully come back as new (has a month left on the warranty!), even better if they just give me a new one (wishful thinking).

Has been a godsend from a time saving pov, main lawn about 200 square metres, but then some other bits alongside that including two steep banks. The Luba was one of the only models that could handle the steepness of the slope.

It’s just been left naked to the elements (power supply I did put in an ‘outdoor box’ thing, but have got a house boxed up in the garage to put together for it.

It’ll be missed whilst it’s away.

I'd really like a robot lawnmower, saving getting the stinky petrol ride-on mower out, but don't people worry it'll be nicked? I'd be concerned with the thought of having a bit of £3k kit (Luba 3 for example) roaming around the garden for any passer-by's to fancy their chances.

I see some have anti-theft detection though, won't be much of a deterrent if someone just wants it for parts .

I've just set up mine Husqvarna Clone Gardena sensio. Im still using wires but this mover has ok WiFi options and a basic yet functional mapping system.
It is really low end. I'm just not prepared to dump 1000s of krona into something that breaks after a few seasons.

My property is typically Swedish and I have open lawns onto a semi busy road I wanted to move to a satellite or optical system last year when my previous mower died but I'm slightly scared of it freaking out and going for a walk. That slender green cable gives me a degree of peace of mind lol.

I am bothered that the GPS system for Husqvarna as i understand it at least here has a yearly charge.. that pees me off on sick of paying for stuff after I've bought it.

I was looking at a Luba I want something with 4wd as my garden is a bit uneven and I can quite often find myself having to rescue the mofo.

I saw that roborok released a mower I'll be interested to research that. I use their stuff indoors and I'm fairly pleased with it.

Since I last posted I've been researching autonomous lawnmowers as I really think they are the answer to my two biggest problems with cutting the grass - finding the time and being arsed to do it when there's better or more needy things to do :D. However, even with my university level degree in man-maths I'm finding it difficult to justify spending almost £3k on another lawnmower (same cost of my ride-on lawnmower bought 7 years ago). Help it make sense!

It's fun to research this kind of thing and I've made a shortlist:

- Mammotion Luba 3
- Segway Navimow X4
- Lymow One Plus
- Terramow X (not yet available but my god it looks the business)

Have you signed up for the early bird VIP access and $1100 off for the Terramow? I'm in the same position, have a ride on and a smaller battery makita mower for the lawn, but struggling to justify spending so much on one of these and deciding which.

This sounds exactly like my situation :D.

Regarding the Terramow X, I signed up to their email to be kept up to date, but I am really considering the VIP access. I am concerned about it being a Kickstarter affair but they do have a good track record of achievement (Eufy E-series mowers are actually Terramow developed designs). I also wonder how long it'll be before being released as it could miss this years cutting season, plus will they really deliver the mower to the UK?
