Has anybody heard any thing about Robson technonolgy?
Well its seems like Intel are working on this PCI device which slots into your pci express slot i think it caches data and stops the hard drive from been used for all data transfer thus speeding up your pc thats it in laymans terms. I have a funny feeling that it will work with vista........so something new to look forward to then

Is there never a good day to build a new pc :(

You sound a bit mixed up. Robson is where the motherboard has an amount of onboard flash memory which is used as a cache for commonly accessed hard drive files. Vista has the ability to take advantage of this through the same way it can use USB memory sticks to cache data.

As the flash memory is limited by the speed of the memory and not the USB connection having it on the motherboard would make little difference. What would be quicker is if it was based in the hard drive itself (a hybrid drive). This would suffer far less latency and as the cache mechanism is implemented at the hardware level it should be far more efficient.

As far as I know there isn't any motherboard out yet with this technology. However I can't see a huge use for it as the USB drives already work very well for the intended purpose of Robson. Vista caches a lot more in the RAM of a computer and with 2GB RAM and a 1GB USB stick I havn't seen much paging if any.

just posting some info thats all ,i wouldn't call it been mixed up! the way i understand it is a 1 gig pci card that slots into your pci slot maybe later this will be incorporated onto the motherboard it self. apple maybe the first to use it.
