Roccat Kave 5.1

used to love my old 5.1 medusa headset lol.

Will these Roccat Kave's work ok with an Asus D2X?
I heard they don't play well with 7.1 cards? (in the ocuk product reviews)

Completely disagree.

Real surround sound headsets with multiple drivers in each can are far better than these "virtual" surround headphones.

I've tried the HS1's, Vengeance 2000's amongst others and they sound crap compared to my current Kaves.

All the more expensive headsets use stereo speakers and are better.
You are just convincing yourself that the real 5.1s are better because you are trying to justify your purchase.

They'll work fine with your D2X, I have a 7.1 card and they work 100%, sound is fantastic.

If was listening to music then I'd agree that a £300 stereo headset would indeed be better. Not much of a shock there!

However when it comes to gaming I'd much rather be using a multi driver 5.1 headset than some "virtual" software gimmicky headset of similar value.

On and as for justifying my purchase I own various headsets as alluded to above so how can I be convincing myself real 5.1 is better based on a purchase?!? Your argument falls flat on it's face there. :D
