Ok, I got my Kaves Monday and they are fantastic. The problem is when theres no sound playing at all I have a constant soft static noise. It seems to fluctuate randomly, it's very quiet but definitely noticeable and irritating. I have googled and it seems a few people have this problem but not found a solution. I have installed a Sound Blaster Audigy 4 I had lying around and disabled onboard but that didn't help.

The sound still occurs when the speakers are muted, or even as the computer is booting up. This makes me believe it's some kind of interference but I have tried everything. Have tried moving the volume control unit far away from everything so theres no interference but still no luck. Have tried different USB ports.

Any suggestions? Don't really want to send these back

Brilliant, realised my mic wasn't working with the audigy 4. Ripped it out, went back to onboard. Now NO sound at all. And still got the static noise, it is also there when ONLY the USB is plugged in and not the sound cables. So incredibly p****d off right now. Can't get my sound back for anything.

Not sure if anyone is reading this. But got my sound back, low buzzing static still persists..have tried soundcard, onboard, old PC on board, old PC soundcard, laptop. Each time just plugging the USB in so the headphones are on, the static can be heard. Grrr. Messaged OcUK about changing them for a different headset. Be warned anyone considering Kaves!

It's a shame because they are good...but when watching films/series and theres quiet bits, or a quiet bit in a game like a loading screen or something it is so noticeable :<

What you are experiencing is noise being picked up buy the inline amp that is powered by the usb connector, I have the caves and I experienced this with onboard audio but when using an xfi extreme music I had no issues. you'll find that most onbard sound is very poorly filtered so any noise is amplified through the caves. Your audigy is also doing it though which is strange, try another PCI slot if you can I had strange issues on an intel motherboard P55 chipset with low end xonar ds and another card major noise interferance. Popped in my trusty XFI and bam no interferance at all.

Moral of this story, it could be a combination of things - don't give up!

Humm, I may just buy an Xonar DG and see how it is. It's just weird how it occurs even as the PC is booting up, and even with just the USB connected. Can you confirm if your problem was the same?

My Audigy 4 is extremely old and the mic doesn't even work with it so it probably didn't help. I really want to hold on to them so, I will give it one last chance and pick up a better soundcard.

Did you have to tweak any settings or anything?

Cheers for the advice

EDIT: Simply plugging in the headset without powering the PC and the sound is still there. I am not very knowledgeable about this stuff but how can a soundcard fix the fact that the USB powered amp is causing static? When you don't even plug the USB into the soundcard?

with the way things are going for me m8 i would stay well clear from the Xonar DG if you have Roccat Kaves. i cant get the surround sound to work properly at all on bad company 2 or medal of honor which both support 5.1 sound.

the Xonar DG seems to perform best with normal stereo headphones. theres far too many issues getting a proper 5.1 headset working to its max.

im gonna give the DG another day or 2 attention to try and get it fixed and tweaked. after that if there is no change im going to look elsewer for a better card to combo with the caves.

This is a never ending nightmare. Reformatted my PC today because it was running slow and had been a year and a half.

Installed all drivers etc, but for some reason my roccat kave mic is both really quiet and very very poor quality. I have installed my onboard sound drivers, and the mic was working fine before I reformatted, doing my head in!!!!!

Any suggestions?

****ING RAGING

EDIT: Managed to fix the problem of mic quietness and poor quality.

I went into device manager, under sounds I right clicked High Definition Audio Device, and clicked uninstall.
When that was done I right clicked Sound, video and game controllers and clicked scan for hardware changes, and it installed and sorted it all. Hope it helps anyone with similar problem.

Can anyone reccomend a soundcard to go with these? I was going to go Xonar DG for 20quid but due to jakes experience I'm avoiding it. I still have static constantly, and the mic quality is not really that good. I guess it's too late to send this back to OcUK so I wonder if I can send em back under warranty if a new soundcard doesn't work.

I am looking at purchasing a sound card this week, but can someone just confirm that will a soundcard get rid of this static? I know people have said it will, but the static exists even if the USB and only the USB is plugged in and the computer is off (headsets on). I just don't see how a soundcard can help this if it doesn't even touch the USB?

Thanks in advance.

That's just too much. Buying these headphones was the biggest mistake ever. The static seems to be getting louder and dominant in the left ear now. It's too late to send them back to OcUK so I am going to have to enquire to Roccat. Anyone thinking of getting these, dont bother, not worth the hassel.

Do you have a wi-fi hub near the PC?

My BT home hub generates a lot of EMI noise that affects audio equipment generally.

Hmm Uriel I am sat literally next to the wireless router yes, but the problem still persists after trying it on a PC in another room. Surely you don't have to be too far away?

Have emailed roccat, will see what they say.

Cheers guys

If pressing the mute button on the control pod does not make the static go away then it is most probably faulty and time to rma, my roccat is silent when there is nothing played and even when the volume is set to max, no static either and my wireless router is just a few meters away.

Ok, well I don't think I can send it back to OcUK anymore,I bought it 11th of August. Grr will see what Roccat says. Thanks for advice guys.

It's deffo not wireless router, turned it off and static still exists.
