Hi,

I am upgrading some peripherals and so far I have decided on a Roccat Kova+ 3200DPI Gaming Mouse and Roccat Taito 400x320x3.5mm Gaming Mousepad.

I am thinking of just going for a nice Roccat keyboard to keep the theme going but I noticed they have membrane and mechanical.

I am currently and have always used membrane keyboards. Is jumping to mechanical a big step up (I have never tested one).

I was looking at ROCCAT Ryos MK MX Black Mechanical Keyboard which I can pick up for around £70.

Other than that is would probably just be a Roccat Isku/Isku FX for around £60-70.

Do you recommend I take the jump to the Ryos MK MX Black Mechanical or stick with the membrane?

I have only started PC gaming (mainly League of Legends) but wasn't sure if I should only jump to mechanical if I was going £100+ for Cherry MX Red (as I was told before).

Thanks and all advice is appreciated as always.

:)

Roccat has pretty amazing build quality, I have their Kone XTD and Ryos MK Pro and both look like they will outlast humanity on this planet.

As far as membrane vs mech, do you have a store nearby that you can check out in person? It is such a personal thing, especially with different switches available, that you really can't take anyone's comments as universal.

I suppose I could ask the shop to let me open the box and test it before buying.

Yeah I heard a lot of good things about the Roccat brand.

Thanks for your input...

Have the kone XTD and the iskuFX KB.

Like vsg28 has said, You need to try for your self . IMO the iskufx I have feels very good. TBH it nearly feels like a Mech. (In my view)

I have the Kova [+] and while it's been mechanically sound in heavy daily use, the surface finish does wear off quite quickly. I keep catching the off-side buttons as well, which is annoying.

Roccat stuff is pretty cool and I love their designs, but they just never quite match up to my requirements.

I'd personally go for one of the Isku boards, myself.

Thanks for the input.

I received my Roccat Kova+ and I love it! So I have decided between these two..

What one do you think is better?

Roccat Isku FX (membrane but has coloured FX) £59.99
Roccat Ryos MK Cherry MX Black Mechanical (black mechanical switches but no coloured FX) £69.99

Is it worth the extra £10 for the mechanical?

got a ryos mk pro here and i literally think you could use it as a weapon it is that sturdy! on brown switches here but that's because out of all the mech switches these are the ones that i get along with the best. It is all down to personal preference really, sometimes it is better to find somewhere that has mech keyboards to just go and see which key type suits you the best

Well, this is merely my personal opinion on your two choices (membrane vs black-switch mechanical):

* If you are doing lots of typing for business or education, membrane.
* If you will not be doing a lot of typing for business or education, and are simply going to be using the keyboard for gaming (FPS, but not RTS), black-switch mechanical.

Typing large essays and such on an unmodified (no O-Rings) black-switch mechanical keyboard gets old pretty fast. That has certainly been my experience at least. I'm currently waiting on a key puller and some O-Rings to see if I can make typing lots of articles on it easier to live with, as presently, it is driving me crazy. (It's solid for FPS though! :D)

Lastly, you don't "need" a mechanical keyboard to do well in games. They are almost certainly a "bonus"/fun item in my opinion.

I'm sure someone else will be along later to disagree with my cynicism!

You need topre switches in your life :)
