Well we know prices are dear here, we sort of expect it as a matter of course, but EA’s official announcement of pricing for Harmonix’s Rock Band is at $AU520 to fully equip yourself out with the full rig, while in NZ the same was announced with GamePlanet beginning to take orders for a game being released in OCTOBER.

Now for a “game” that is ludicrous to a major extent. It smacks of “we don’t care about your market” and you’ll pay it if you want it bad enough. Seriously, that’s more than the cost of a top level SKU console. When we look at prices of the same item in the UK or the US, there’s a huge difference in pricing. Why, don;t tell me there’s a huge difference in the costing of UK Pal game to the Australian PAL game, when they are both supposed to be the same.

Now we have Rock Band II heading our way and priced at just $US189 at GameStop, and one would wonder why anyone would even consider buying a year old game, that has a following game already on the launch pad and due for release on the 19th October ‘08. Especially one that has such a high $520 RRP here in Australia.

Various Australian retailers are simply refusing to stock the item. And rightly so. Not only will they sell like snow cone in winter in Iceland (not), they will take up valuable floor space, and huge warehousing and handling costs associated with just moving one item. It’s not like it fits in the gaming bins or on shelves, now is it.

An Aussie on the scorehero forums paid less than that to import the whole thing and buy all the DLC. That's how ridiculous the price is.

:o
You can buy a basic drum kit and a guitar with a practice amp with that! That's one thing I don't understand about the poor Aussie counter-part. We get ripped off but the Aussies gets ripped off more... and to add fuel to their fire, they usually get games 6 months, if not almost a year later than US/Europe...

Not a place for gamers is it?

Blimey.

Every time I think we are being screwed over on release dates and pricing by the US, I always remember our Antipodean cousins have it much, much worse.

If you consider it's a 4 person game, it's just the same price as a normal game. Still, it is expensive for just 1 game...
(for us that is, Aussies are just getting ripped off)

I can see where you're coming from, but i disagree. While yes it would cost that much to kit yourself out to play 4-player in other games, that cost would carry on into any other 'normal' game you have. With this the instruments will work for 1/2 games then thats it.

I buy all my games overseas since moving here. All electrical & gadgety type stuff is way more expensive here but the good thing is that we can import upto $1000 & not get stung for import tax. Also computer hardware is just slightly cheaper then the UK.

Resistance 2 is a 60 player game, so I guess it's absolutely amazing value since it will only cost like £40! ;)

Absolutely mental. And yeah, you can get RB for xbox 360 for £140 - my brother bought this recently, he also used a 5% off voucher on the site and a 4% quidco discount, so it totalled £128.
