Hi,

I've never "bought" any content through thr 360 marketplace before and had a question.

Are downloads tied to your XBox Live user? Could I download songs for rockband on my uni housemates xbox (under my account) and then re-download them on my own xbox when I get home after uni? (I.e end of the term?)

Does the same apply to other DLC from the xbox store?

As far as I understand it no. Sorry. Might be able to download to a mem card on your account using his xbox then use card in yours but afaik not possible using hdd.

I could be wrong!
 
I've only ever downloaded RB DLC to the one Xbox, so can't answer this question from experience.

I 'sense' that this will work like other XBOX 360 or XBLA downloads and have DRM attached to it that means it'll work fine on the first Xbox 360 you download to and then after that you'd need to be online for it to work again on another machine.

However there is a further question, which is does RB DLC work on other profiles on the same console it was downloaded to? I assume this is yes.

If no one can answer here, the RB forums would also be a good place to post or start reading up on.
 
You have 2 licences attached to the content.

One is a console licence for the machine the content is downloaded one, the other is an account licence for the gamer profile that downloads it.

If you download on your friends console, anyone on that console will be able to access it wether or not you are signed in.
On your Xbox you can re-download the content. Anyone can use the content on your console, but only if the owning gamer profile is signed into Xbox LIVE.

This applies to every bit of content on the games marketplace.

Thanks for your answers. It makes sense.

Is there no way to "clear" my profile off one xbox so that I can transfer the machine license? Once I move back home i'll have no need for the DLC on the first xbox.
 
You can use the license transfer tool once every 12 months.

So, you can download to your hearts content on someone else' xbox, and as long as you bought them on your account, you can re-download them at home and they'll be licenced to that box; whether you're signed in or not.
