I have a problem I cannot solve.

Rocket league seems to kill my Internet connection. I mean literally kill it.

When ever I launch it after about one minute (at most) the Internet dies. Ping goes to 300ms and then it dies.
This happens on both my 4g and home.Ethernet is used for broadband connection.
After this I can run speed tests on it which confirm the ping is 300+ and this is on a different device.

Then it goes back to normal.
But Launch the game again and it repeats. Day and night all the time. This didnt happen a few weeks ago.

Because its doing the same on 4g as broadband I cannot understand it.

Any ideas?

Disable/Uninstall any AV/firewall software temporarily?

Yes I tried that. Had no effect. I'm not sure if it's a dud router? It seems to be more than just that game on further investigation. But more noticeable in game obviously.

Is weird I getting the same on 4g as in wired broadband

You could try a "Network Reset"?

I'll definitely try that reset!

Setup is

Broadband
-surface book to ethernet to router
-router is bog standard sky
-Internet is 17down 1up (Mbit) at best
-tried wired and wireless

4g
-plusnet standard
-surface book to phone hot-spot

Are you using powerline adapters for Ethernet?

I've had nothing but reliability problems for the past year or so, first with BT Infinity (BT Smart Hub), recently moved to Plusnet (Hub One) and the problems persisted. Basically, the Internet connection was stable while being used by wifi or any device connected directly to the router, but anytime I used the PC (which was connected via powerline adapters), the router would disconnect. When plugged into the router using a long Ethernet cable directly, it was fine. Last week I went to the effort of running a proper Ethernet cable through the loft and the connection has been rock steady ever since.

EDIT: Just seen it's happening on 4G as well - perhaps the above is irrelevant to you.

Wow!
Thank you so much.
This seems to have solved the issue. On some quick testing I'm no longer getting the issue.

I test properly tomorrow.
This was driving me insane

How is it possible for an end device to disrupt a tune devices?

Off topic, but I thought i'd say that my recent purchase of some gigabit netgear powerline adapters went straight back because they caused so much noise that my signal margin plummeted and even my speakers picked up the disruption. It was something to do with plugging an item into them from what I could make out as they were the passthrough ones.

I'll also check these. As yes, I am using them.
Can they cause a problem just bring connected?

The issues I had were weird. I used them with no problems for ages (apart from the PC sometimes losing network connection due to DNS errors, but the router was still fine).

I then started having problems after redecorating the living room where the router lived. I did have the powerline in the wall, then an extension socket strip plugged into that, into which everything including the router (BT Smart Hub) was connected. After redecorating and moving stuff around, I had the same layout, but the strip that the router was plugged into for power, went straight into the wall (Ethernet cable still going into the powerline). This started the problem whereby using the PC actually caused the router to disconnect and reboot. The PC was the only Ethernet device connected by the powerlines, as it was upstairs; all other Ethernet devices, TV/YouView/Hive, were in the same room as the router and they'd never caused the router to reboot.

Once I plugged the router power cable back in via the powerline AC passthrough, it was fine again. So maybe the powerlines have some sort of noise filter on their own AC output?

But anyway...a couple of weeks ago, we switched to Plusnet, with the Hub One router. Immediately started having the same problem, without changing the wiring setup. I switched back to the BT Smart Hub, and even that wasn't playing ball now. So I decided to ditch the powerlines, and managed to find a way to run a CAT5E up the outside of the house from the living room, across the loft and down into the airing cupboard, which is in the room where the PC is. Ever since doing that, the connection has been perfect - the Plusnet router was still experiencing some problems, but unrelated to the PC being used, so last week I switched back to using the BT Smart Hub with my Plusnet login - current uptime is about 6 days, hasn't disconnected once since I started using that hub :)

The powerlines I was using are TP-Link AV500s I bought several years ago. When I first started having trouble with the BT router, I actually bought a pair of more expensive Devolo units, but sent them back as they had the exact same problem.

Hmm.
I also have tp link ones that have been fine for ages.
I will try 100pc wireless.

Maybe the 4g thing is unrelated
Or the laptop itself was causing the issue with the network adapter reset working

Will report back tonight

I isolated the powerlines by buying a cheap 30m Ethernet cable and running it downstairs to connect the PC directly to the router. But yeah,if your PC has wireless on board, connect using that, just to confirm whether they're causing the problem.

Ill just disconnect the ethernet cable from the router and try WiFi.
It will be instantly obvious if that's the problem

While I doubt you have the same issue as I did in any way shape or form, just so you know mine caused issues without an ethernet cable even in it, it just needed to be plugged in and have something, in our case a lamp on a timer, plugged into it. It fubar'd the noise margin on the router giving disconnections, caused interference on the phone line and feedback through speakers, none of which were directly attached to the powerline adapters. And I'm pretty sure this was on two different electrical loops, in all honesty I was pretty stunned!

Indeed it was the tp link powerline adapters!
Literally removed it completely and not a single problem!
