Not supported by the older Android phones... needs an ARM6 processor or better.

Sounds like from some of the discussion going on that the currently released preview beta is just one of several betas the team has at the moment.
Whilst 720p is not important, I hope they can further optimise for the most popular platforms and continue to improve compatibility.
A compatible, decent performing player would be a godsend for Android as its one of the few things missing.
