Hello everyone first post, I'm having an issue with this motherboard that i hoped maybe someone might have some other idea's about the issue.

I recently changed my main PC to a 9950X3D, which left me with a 7950X3D spare. I had plans to build another PC for other uses so i decided to buy parts to put one together.

I decided to do what i've never done before and bought a 2nd hand motherboard from Ebay, which the seller deemed "Used for a few weeks this item is in mint condition" which it was, it looks imacculate and i couldnt see any issues with it.

Initial power on it worked straight away and i had no issues with it so i deemed it working.

The main issue im having now however is whenever the PC is switched on from a completely cold boot, ie no power to the psu/not in standby, I get the 00 code and the DRAM light is orange, if i press the cmos clear button on the back of the motherboard and then power on, it boots normally and i get to bios, save and reboot and from there i get into windows fine.

If the PC is left with power to the PSU, ie Motherboard LEDs are lit, It does not give this issue when switching on, it is only when there is no power left to the board for a period of time.

At this point, bios settings are all default

Things i've tried are:

Brand New CMOS battery (Freshly bought)
Different RAM set - I have 2 identical RAM kits (G.Skill Flare X5 6000mhz CL32) Both kits work flawlessly in main PC without issue and don't show errors in memtest so i've deemed the RAM itself as OK
Different BIOS versions (2904 and 2806)
Re-seated the CPU multiple times

It functions perfectly and doesnt appear to have any issues under use, it passes OCCT 12hr stability tests, memtests etc, in other words it works flawlessly other than this cold boot issue.

My thought is its bios related given that cmos clear allows it to boot normally, unless there is something i'm missing im not sure what else to try.

Could this potentially be PSU related, or is the motherboard just deemed faulty at this point?

Any help greatly appreciated, Thanks.

In tweakers paradise you will find setting Monitoring Software reboot Workaround set to [Enabled], see if that resolves issue.

Tried that setting but it didnt seem to help, strangely enough on one of my attempts it was the CPU red LED instead of the RAM, still 00 code but pushing the cmos clear and powering on resolved it again like usual.

CPU detection problem maybe? Pins all looked good each time ive tried reseating, i've tried different mounting pressure of the cooler also but no luck.

These DDR5 boards are a bit of a mystery, boot issues are unfortunately common.

You could try messing with power down/memory context restore if you haven't already, also try without EXPO enabled.

Do you have many USB devices?

I'd recommend disabling the crate in the BIOS and uninstalling it from the PC.

I'll look into power down/memory context restore, Issue happens with or without EXPO, i don't bother enabling it at the moment until i can find out this problem.

Only mouse and keyboard plugged into it for now.

And yep, first thing i do is disable Armoury Crate on these ASUS boards, Rest assured that software will never see the light of day on my systems

Had no luck with different combinations of power down/memory context unfortunately.

Its not the biggest of issue, just shame cant find a reason. Like said previously, if the board is left with power then it switches on everytime without issue, only if for example i was to unplug and move the computer somewhere i would then have to reset the bios to get past the error.

I think i found the issue, now i feel a bit silly. I never actually physically tried it without the keyboard itself connected, this entire time the keyboard appears to be the issue, boots fine from no power without it connected.

I should have probably tried that much sooner, but my mind was more focused on it being a cmos/memory issue.

Thanks for the help along the way.

Thanks for letting us know! What is the keyboard, just out of curiosity?
