My PC I built won't boot. When I connect my monitor I see nothing, only black screen.

Yesterday I thought I fixed the issue. The PC actually booted and worked fine after I cleared CMOS header by unplugging the onboard cell battery and touching the two pins as written in manual with a screwdriver for 10 seconds. Before I turned the PC on I plugged the onboarding cell battery back. I unscrewed the back cover on the motherboard to get to the cable (see picture).

However the next day when I turned the PC on, I can only see black screen on my monitor. I did check the monitor and cables by using my MacBook and it worked flawlessly.

I noticed there is an orange / yellow light on the motherboard when I turn the PC on. According to the manual it is DRAM Q-LED. Also the motherboard doesn't give power to any of its USB ports on the back. I know this because my keyboard has backlit keys and they turn on when the PC is on.

Today I tried:
  • Removing both RAM sticks, cleaning the pins with a brush.
  • Try only 1 RAM stick. I tried both and still I only see black screen.
  • I reseted the CMOS header again. I tried both with and without unplugging the cell battery. The issue remains.

What would you recommend I try? Thank you in advance for any help!

How long have you left it to have a think about itself? Could be doing memory training as this takes 10-15 min I think on first boot.

I've left it on for about 5-10 min each time. The yellow DRAM Q-LED on motherboard is on the whole time and the issue persists. I also manually updated the BIOS with a USB drive. Also I've been using the PC without any issues for gaming for well over 2 months and this is the first time I'm having these issues.

Have you removed your GPU and used just the onboard video? Failing that and without another PC to test your components in, best guess would be the motherboard has a fault. If it's under warranty you could try contacting the manufacturer to raise an RMA.

Looking like it’s a faulty mobo, I second this suggestion.

Thanks for your suggestions! I removed the riser cable and connected my monitor via HDMI directly to the motherboard and the PC booted. I got these messages:
  1. BIOS is updating. Do not shut down or reset the system to prevent system bootup failure.
  2. BIOS is updating LED firmware. Do not shut down or reset the system to prevent system bootup failure.
  3. And last this screen

Next, I reconnected the riser cable and turned the PC on while having my monitor connected to the motherboard. I left it on for around 5 minutes and I got the black screen again, yellow DRAM Q-LED on motherboard and my keyboard which is connected to the back of motherboard wasn't backlit. Do you think this could be faulty riser cable, faulty motherboard, faulty GPU or something else?

I unplugged the riser cable again and I'm able to get into the UEFi bios utility. DOCP is enabled. It seems I'm getting normal CPU and motherboard temperatures.

It's either the riser cable - or the motherboard is trying to put you in a different PCIE version that isn't supported by the riser cable.

Do you know what version the riser cable is? I recently did a build with a riser - and had to first boot the PC with the GPU in the actual PCIE slot first, manually adjust the PCIE version to 3.0 - then reattach the riser and it all worked fine from that point.

The PCIe version is 4.0
So with the GPU plugged in directly to the motherboard, everything boots with no issue?

I'd suggest getting a replacement riser, you can at least rule that then out. Risers can be a bit finnicky, I've had some with no issues and a few that caued all sorts of headaches.

If it's me, I'd sort out getting a replacement riser - but at the same I'd manually change the PCIE version in the bios to 3.0, then use the riser again to see if it works at a lower PCIE version.

When I plug the GPU directly into the motherboard I get no boot. Only black screen. On top of it when I disconnect the GPU and connect monitor to motherboard I can't get it to boot like few hours ago.
