howdy, does it matter which m.2 slot to use, got an nvme 250 gig for windows and an nvme 2TB for games, or does it not matter, all help well appreciated.

Hi Bellows,

what made you go for this board? I’ve got my list down to 3 but finding it difficult to choose, currently thinking about the Asus, gigabyte aurus ac and msi tomahawk. All z490

any tips would be appreciated and I can’t make a decision.

I just tend to use the farthest one from the graphics card.

Asus, Gigabyte and MSI all make fine boards. I tend to buy what I am used to in a BIOS but I think that unless you are in to serious overclocking then just go with the one that has the features you need.

Thanks for the reply, it’s in the mail :)

i have the z490-f and having issues with the intel i225-v 2.5gb ethernet lan the speeds are just shocking and all over the place, replacement board same problem.
plug in a pcie 1gb card at it works flawless , Im starting to feel that the lan chipset has flaw's.

Hi, just putting mine together, am I right in thinking that if I put 2 NVME drives in this then the PCIX drops to 8x?

not very clear in the manual

cheers

I have 2 x M.2 NVME and the 1080 Ti in the primary PCI-E slot is running at 16X 3.0. Verified in GPU-Z.

The primary M.2 (next to the CPU) is connected directly to the CPU so use that slot for your boot drive.

I'd rather have 5GBASE-T as a plug in card myself and save a few quid on the motherboard. I still prefer MSI BIOS though but this board came as a bundle. Recently built a 3600 & 3700X with the MSI Mortar and that's a great combo for the price.

Mine is a 3900X + 32GB (2x16) Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro 3200 RAM and so far it's been faultless. Noticeable improvement over my i7 5820K @ 4GHz in games too not just multi-core which is no comparison now :)

Thanks a lot for all of that, just booting into windows. Man this thing is quick! It’s my first time using NVME and I’m pretty stunned at the difference
