Yesterday i had set my heart on purchasing the Rog Swift instead of one of the TN 4K Panels (The Acer G-Sync one to be specific).

Now today i check the website to notice Acer have a 4k IPS panel available to be pre ordered. Had this new monitor not been added to the website today, i'd have most likely already ordered the Rog Swift this morning.

I have i7 4770k and 780TI SLI. So i've read that i can probably run 4k Res at playable frame rates. However with the Acer G-Sync i was thinking about getting i figured the G-Sync would help me keep to steady frame rates.

Now the new Acer 4K IPS doesn't have G-Sync and even if they did, it'd probably add close to £200 to the price of them which would probably make it a little out of my price range to be honest anyway.

So the question is; (Which has been asked a few times before)

Which;

1. Asus Rog Swift (£599) (I've sort of sold myself on 120hz and 144hz gaming with G-Sync, i would prefer 2160p rather than 1440p but i 'should' be able to live with that.

2. Acer 4k2k TN (£499) (Comes with G-Sync which should make 4K gaming playable and those extra pixels would be great)

3. Acer 4k2k IPS (£599) (IPS looks better and i currently use a 1080p IPS screen so maybe dropping to TN would be too noticable for me? However it doesn't come with G-Sync so would this make this monitor crap to game on?)

- Please keep in mind i've never looked at a 4k monitor, nor have i played on a 120hz monitor and i also have never used G-Sync.

I also use steam in-home streaming to my Macbook Pro which is 2880x1800 so if i got the 4k monitor i could stream full res gaming to Macbook Pro in my home. If i got the Rog Swift i could still stream at 1920x1200 to my Macbook and that would be better than my current 1650x1050 that i am forced to use due to needing full screen. and 1080p leaves my macbook with black bars.

The type of games i play;
1. Titan Fall
2. Assassins Creed
3. The Crew
4. Far Cry 4
5. Civ Beyond Earth
6. Diablo

Sorry for the wall of text, just hesitant to spend so much on a display to not like it when i get it.

Thanks.

The only way you are going to be able to say is to get eyes on time with all of them

I have had: the samsung 4k, a 2560x1440 IPS and the rog swift

I kept the rog swift

Once properly calibrated the swift is very nearly as good as my IPS, only viewing angles let it down which gaming head on isnt an issue, no IPS glow and motion handling are massively superior to 4k or ips

With 4k you also need sli to be working perfectly, where as 1440 you can get by with one card if necessary while waiting for patches

Hmm, tough choice you've got there bud.

I would say 780Ti SLI is just not enough for 4k gaming without gsync personally. So that kind of rules out the 4k ips. BUT, it's a lovely screen potentially, and if you upgrade your graphic cards in the near future it will be good to go.

I currently game on a rog swift with 780Ti SLI, and it is wonderful. 120hz and gsync is just a brilliant thing for gaming vs 60hz. It's the old adage of you don't know what you're missing out on until you try it. And the colour reproduction on the Swift is very very good for a TN. The ONLY issue is the vertical viewing angles as mentioned by Andyb.
A few people are having issues and faults with their swifts though, so that's something to bear in mind.

I also have a dell ips for work (photography/ video) and other stuff though. I would say your decision largely depends on if you're looking for one screen for EVERYTHING, or are prepared to use a few?
Unfortunately there is not one screen that fits all at the moment. My dream monitor is:

3440 x 1440 superwide
IPS, IGZO or VA panel
120hz
Gsync

If you download the program called 'Radeon pro' (yes it does work for nvidia) and use it to inject SMAA high or ultra (works on 64bit exe as well) then the image quality is reasonably close to 4k with no AA from a few ft back. Only at close range do textures or slight jaggies etc look more realistic etc at 4k. The swift is a great all rounder for all game types. Higher hz when needed and good 60hz response times for awkward games like ACU and Far Cry 4 that to fix the stuttering you have to use MSI afterburner riva tuner to limit them to 60fps and keep it running at 60fps with no drops or else it judders again even when using g-sync. Pushing 4k 60fps on these games may not be possible so you will have stutter at the moment on the higher or max settings unless the strange reason is fixed and g-sync will not judder then without the fix i'm using. Of course maxed vram stutter is a consideration on your gpu's as i'm sure you are aware.

I say 4k is pretty much useless right now for any true gamer as there are no GPU's available that are powerful enough to run highend games at 4k with over 60FPS..

All the replies have been a great help, this one possibly most helpful.

Thank you everyone, i've ordered the Rog Swift. Won't get to test it out until Tuesday, but that gives me something to look forward to ;)

-Yes i had seen some articles about maxed vram stutter, that was something that was playing on my mind also. Hopefully at 1440p i won't struggle.
