ROG Swift PG278Q quick question

Hi guys

I'm looking at getting an asus ROG Swift PG278Q. I recently purchased an MSI 980 and want to maximize all my settings. I cant afford to go SLI yet but I wanted to know if I would be able to game at 1440p with above 60+ FPS. The rest of my specs are in my signature.

I don't really want to shell out that much money and not be able to reap the full benefits of owning this monitor. Ideally I'd like to be able to play Total War Warhammer at full whack when its released. Battlefield 4 is probably the most power hungry game i own.

Any help would be much appreciated

Simple answer is no, the 980 is a strong gpu but on my setup with a 980 i found i dipped below 60 fps on modern titles. However with G-sync unless you have o.c.d and stare at a frame rate counter the whole time it does a good job of smoothing out the frame dips.

As for Total war warhammer, well the total war series are a huge cpu hog and the bottleneck will be the FX8350 not not the 980.

So do you think maybe stick with a 1080p monitor but 144hz with g-sync?. In regards to fx8350, i think next year I will be looking to start a new build during the second half of the year. New mobo cpu etc

Well for me that would be a hard choice. I've had a 1440p since owning a 7950 and i certainly wouldn't go back to 1080p now. Personally i would wait and see what september brings , there are rumblings that the Asus PG279Q (144hz g-sync ips) will be released, if its good i would go for that , but right now the the Swift is still probably the most hassle free 1440p gaming monitor out there.

Get the ROG Swift, you can always upgrade your cards later but unless you want to go 4k you'll have no need to upgrade your monitor.

+1 for the RoG.

When I first got mine, I had 7970+7990 trifire, so lots of power but no GSync. Could often run at over 100FPS but it wasn't a great experience.

I then went to a single 980. While I would "only" get around 60fps in many games, it was much better.

I then went SLI. Now almost all games are well over 60fps, but to be honest I'd be happy with only a single 980.
