Just a general thread for people to post their favourite roguelike games for iOS/Android/BB/Windows/whathaveyou!

Personally I've been dungeoncrawling away on Nethack during my 6 years on Windows Mobile (was using an HTC Universal with a GREAT keyboard, so it was perfect for it), in fact I much preferred playing on my phone than on my computer! :) Since my move to Android I've yet to find a game that's a suitable replacement because of the keyboard situation. I've tried several but either they're terrible or the control schemes are. I'm looking forward to seeing what others are playing!

Dude you just geeked the f*&k out with "Roguelikes"!

I didn't think it was possible to geek ANYONE out on these forums! :p Anyway, Nethack has 50k downloads on Appbrain alone so what do you guys know? :p Roguelikes would be perfect for touchscreen phones if they sorted out the interface!

Yeah you guys keep mocking, I don't care, it just keeps the thread at the top of the forum long enough for some people of taste and distinction (ie. roguelike fans) to come along and see it! :D

Unfortunately without a keyboard you aren't going to find a roguelike that's equivalent in complexity to the best PC ones. Right now you'd have to settle for a toned done experience geared towards gaming on a phone.

The best I've found on iPhone is probably Rogue Touch, which is a good remake of the original Rogue, so lacking in depth and features but it controls pretty well on a touch screen. Sword of Fargoal is also very enjoyable; very simple roguelike but has great atmosphere and presentation.

iNetHack is also on iPhone but I've been put off by reports of buggyness, as well as control and interface problems. Sadly it doesn't seem to have been updated in a long time.

I'd love to see my favourite PC roguelike (Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup) on a portable device, but I just don't see how it would work.

Yeah, that's what I've found too. I played the Android ports of Nethack but they're a pain to operate even with my Desire Z's hardware keyboard. They remapped the movement keys to JYKUMN rather than the number keys and it takes some getting used to. Plus the fact that my hardware keyboard doesn't have an alt or ctrl key, so I need to use the onscreen keyboard for most things (making for a really tiny display left to show the dungeon!!) and even then it takes a lot of touchscreen taps to get to anything...
