Okay so work is in need of heating. No gas available :(

My boss has had a random rep suggesting Rointe Kyros heaters and the prices are

Curious how they claim:

Thanks to Fuzzy Logic Energy Control technology, the average consumed power of the Kyros radiator can be as low as 38% of the normal power.

patented Fuzzy Logic Energy Control technology, which provides up to 62% savings in power consumption compared with other technologies

My understanding of electric heaters are a £20 heater from argos is 100% efficient so how and where do they get such figures from?

Internet searches already show up an ASA ruling for previous claims.

So have they (Rointe) improved (the laws of physics if my limited understanding is correct) or given the options are space heaters/cheap convection heaters as good as anything for heating a room about the size of a fairly modest car show room?

Rointe was investigated several times by Trading Standards and had several ASA rulings against their magical "technologies" (they previously used buzzwords like "Digital Electric Radiator" or "Optimizer Energy Plus") in adverts. Each time they seem to just change the name of "technology" behind their heaters and plow on with outrageous claims of magical energy until next ruling.

I have a brochure with their stuff in it.

"Optimum compensation between w/element"

"low consumption" (of what - bananas?)

"Design optimised for maximum heat dissipation" - heat goes up, have they treat it to roll over and beg.

So basically snake oil and I am right in thinking their claims are marketing nonsense?

Unfortunatley we read the Rointe website and believed their write up on what a wonderful product they were selling. We purchased a full system for a newly renovated house we wanted to resell, we had a new EPC carried out only for it to be at a lower level than the old broken Parkray system, we queried this with the EPC engineer who ran the checks again and confirmed it was correct and the best way of increasing the EPC was to rip out the Rointe system and fit either Storage heaters or have an oil fired system fitted. There is no gas available except LPG. So we had just spent thousands of pounds having this Rointe system to be fitted to be told it was classified as Panel heaters on the EPC. Rointe do not advertise that their systems are no better than a Panel heater or it can reduce the EPC, I think they should be made to make the General public aware of this so other people know what they are buying. Hope this help with anyone thinking of purchasing their heating products.

Avoid them like the plague.

Would an aircon unit not be possible? They are remarkably efficient at heating (Air source heatpump basically)

Quite possibly, however the house is up for sale and do not want to spend any more at the moment. Rointe offered to have the EPC redone as they thought it was wrong, then went back on the offer and won't even reply to my emails. They are supposed to have very good customer service if you believe what is written. It certainly not our experience and like you avoid dealing with them at all costs.
